Norwich Theatre, in partnership with Relish Theatre, is heading on a regional tour with Time and Tide – a Cromer-set play written by local playwright James McDermott – from 29 September until 23 October, in its very own electric car, thanks to partners GRIDSERVE Car Leasing.

The 100% electric car supplied by GRIDSERVE Car Leasing will take the cast and crew on its 19-day tour around East Anglia. The tour will open and close at Norwich Theatre’s Stage Two venue and tour around the region, calling at theatres in Colchester, Bury St Edmunds, Lowestoft, Sheringham, Wells, Diss, Great Yarmouth, and Thetford.

GRIDSERVE is a tech-enabled sustainable energy business whose purpose is to deliver sustainable energy and move the needle on climate change. It has pioneered a Sun-to-Wheel ecosystem that includes the most advanced hybrid solar + battery farms, award-winning electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and a customer-centric electric vehicle leasing platform.

Rachel Lloyd, Programming Manager & Producer at Norwich Theatre said

“We are committed to ensuring that the impact we make is on our audience, not the environment. We try to consider the effect of all our actions, from the way the set, props and costumes are designed to reducing the amount of waste and energy used to the travel choices we make when touring.

“Thanks to our partners at GRIDSERVE Car Leasing, we can take this home-grown funny play about Norfolk to the communities it represents; reflecting local stories and voices with less environmental impact.”

Chris Ward, General Manager at GRIDSERVE Norwich Electric Forecourt®, said:

“We are thrilled to be helping Norwich Theatre take Time and Tide on tour around the beautiful region of East Anglia in an electric car. With a ban on new petrol and diesel cars coming into place in 2030, EV ownership is soaring, and the East Anglian region is no different. EV ownership is easier than ever with our leasing offers and reliable charging on the GRIDSERVE Electric Highway and our second GRIDSERVE Electric Forecourt® in Norwich.”

A full cast has just been announced for the regional tour and includes Josh Barrow who returns to the role of Nemo, following Time and Tide’s 2020 run at Park Theatre. He is joined by newcomers Erin Geraghty (Birds Of A Feather, Nighty Night, Knightmare) as May, Ishmel Bridgeman (Animal Farm, National Youth Theatre) as Daz, and Paul Lavers (Catch Me If You Can, Network, Les Blancs) as Ken.

Time And Tide is an LGBT comic drama about a Norfolk community struggling with change. May runs a crumbling caff on the end of Cromer Pier. Her delivery man, Ken, is running out of customers, thanks to Costa. Nemo is desperate to tread the boards in London, and his unrequited love, Daz, is burying his head in the sand over his best mate leaving.
