Presented by Norwich Theatre in partnership with Lost in Translation Circus, Norwich Cathedral and Norwich School, INTERLUDE in the CLOSE takes place in the iconic and historic Norwich Cathedral Close in a big-top circus tent from 14 July to 30 August 2021. By Foot Head towards the Maid’s Head Hotel NR3 1LB, keep to the right hand side of the footpath head down Palace St and continue past the Wig & Pen Pub, Follow the footpath to the right and head down St Martin at Place Plain, continue past the Adam & Eve Pub on to Bishopgate. Continue down the road about 500 yards and you will come to a wooden gate at Norwich Lower School Car Park NR1 4DD. A member of staff will direct you towards the entrance of the Big Top.

By Car The nearest car parks are: St Helens Wharf Pay and Display NR3 1RZ (4 Min Walk), Magdalen car park NR3 1SP ( 10 Mins Walk) or alternatively you can use the new multi storey car park on Rose Lane NR1 1PY (10 Mins Walk)

Please Note: There is no public parking to visitors within the Cathedral or Norwich School Grounds.

Public Transport

Regular buses and trains run to Norwich from locations around Norfolk and from outside the county. INTERLUDE is a 12 minute walk from Norwich Station and a 15 minute walk from Norwich Bus Station. The nearest bus stops can be found on Castle Meadow.

There are currently four Park & Ride sites running, which are conveniently located on the outskirts of Norwich at Hellesdon (Airport), Sprowston, Harford, and Thickthorn. The buses run up to every 15 minutes to and from the city centre and stop at Tombland and Upper King Street which are both ideal for accessing INTERLUDE during the day.

INTERLUDE – COVID Secure Measures

All performances and activities will be presented in compliance with the latest Government’s guidance and regulations. Specific control measures, which will be reviewed regularly, will be in place to mitigate the risk of the spread of Coronavirus.

Anyone who has displayed COVID-19 symptoms in the 10 days, had a positive test or been told to self isolate by NHS Track and Trace prior to the event / activity they have purchased tickets for is asked not to attend. This is in line with the Government’s Coronavirus advice.

  • Only ticket holders will be allowed into the INTERLUDE arena.
  • Please remember to bring your E-Ticket with you to the event, either in printed form or on your mobile device, for staff to view at a distance.
  • We strongly encourage you wear a face covering especially when moving around the big top or in crowded areas.
  • Please make regular use of hand sanitiser available on site.
  • The arena will open 90mins prior to the advertised show start time. Access to the big top will be 30mins before the show starts.
  • Please speak to a Visitor Services Team Member if you have any concerns or questions at any point during your time at INTERLUDE.
  • You will be asked to leave the arena immediately after your performance finishes to allow for the whole site to be reset or closed down.
  • Polite Notice – INTERLUDE is being held in a residential area. Please respect the residents as you leave and keep noise levels to a minimum when leaving.
  • Please be aware on selected performances a roaming photographer may be filming or taking photographs within the arena or big top for promotional purposes.


Ticket Information:

Tickets can be purchased online at or by calling our Box Office on 01603 630 000. All bookers will be emailed an e-ticket which can be printed at home or shown on your mobile device when you arrive at the theatre.

To allow for social distancing, seating capacity has been reduced. However, we may release more tickets closer to the event date if Government regulations change. Tickets online are available in fixed groups of 2, 3 , 4 , 5 or 6 as each group needs to be socially distanced from other ticket holders  in line with government guidance. A small number of single tickets will be made available for each performance.  All tickets within a particular group must be purchased by one booker. On selected shows and depending on availability, the fixed group size may change and unsold seats may be purchased over the phone or in person via our Box Office.

Will I be able to buy tickets on the door?

To ensure a safe environment for staff and audiences, we recommend all tickets are pre-bought online or via box office. Unsold tickets will be made available on the door on the day of the performance.

What does the INTERLUDE in the CLOSE tent seating look like?

Seats are allocated in fixed groups of 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, to ensure the 1m+ social distancing is maintained between groups or ‘bubbles’. A small number of single seats will be made available for each performance. The sides of the tent will be lifted to  ensure optimum ventilation. Ticket holders will be asked to follow the one way system and keep social distancing at all times.

Where should I sit?

You will be issued with a Print At Home/E-Ticket which will include your row & seat number. There will be stewards on hand to help guide you to your seats.

What are your opening hours?

We anticipate the site will open 90 minutes prior to an event, and doors to the tent 30 mins before the performance is due to start. More information will be released closer to the event.

Will the venue be accessible?

The venue will have level access across the site using matting and ramps.

Will performances go ahead if it’s raining?

Yes. We will do our very best to ensure every scheduled event will go ahead in INTERLUDE in the CLOSE and any adverse weather conditions should not affect this. However in extreme circumstances, if we did need to cancel a performance to ensure the safety of performers and audience members, we will contact customers booked for that particular show to let them know of any changes.

What happens if I’m running late?

Depending on how late ticket holders are, customers will still be able to gain entrance to the site and our stewards will escort you to your seats at an appropriate point in the event.
