Left it a little late this Mother’s Day? Don’t panic! Treat your Mum or Gran to an extra special theatre experience that she will love. Here is our very own handpicked gift guide:

Something for this weekend

We’ve got two incredible Italian operas from the English Touring Opera this weekend. Donizetti and Rossini’s productions encompass love and comedy with spectacular sets and costumes. Both are performed on period instruments in partnership with the Old Street Band. Complete the experience with a dinner booking at our restaurant, Prelude.

For a night of nostalgia

Legends of Variety presents fabulous old-school variety performers in one joyful and uplifting production. They may all be of a certain vintage, but their experience and knowledge gained by years of honing their craft is a joy to behold!

A cheeky show for the Norfolk mums

The Birds and the Bees was met with a raucous reception last year when it debuted at the Playhouse. By popular demand, it’s back, and this time it’s at the Royal! Starring Helen Lederer (Absolutely Fabulous and French & Saunders) and Michael Starke (The Royal and Benidorm), this comedy set on a Norfolk farm is sure to be a hit with the local mums.

For the mums looking for their Mr Darcy

Pride and Prejudice* (*sort of) was a triumph in the West End and is the audacious musical adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic. Featuring a string of pop classics, including Young Hearts Run Free, Will You Love Me Tomorrow, and You’re So Vain, it’s sure to get mum dancing in her seat.

Something brand new for the mum who has seen it all

The Land of Might-Have-Been is our brand new co-production with Buxton International Festival and follows the fascinating story of feminist and pacifist Vera Brittain in 1914. Set to the stunning songs of Ivor Novello. This will be great for any mums who love history, musicals, and opera or for anyone who wants something brand new and never seen before.

For the mum who wants to be creative

Did you know we also have a Writing through Motherhood course as part of our Take Part activities? Open to mothers at any stage in their journey, not only can mums learn to express themselves through writing but meet and network with other local mothers.
