Select a performance
This distinguished orchestra, established in Tallinn 100 years ago, is now the most prominent orchestral ambassador of Estonia, working with renowned conductors and soloists world-wide.
We greatly look forward to their performance of Sibelius’ evocative and iconic fifth symphony, aptly preceded by the stunningly beautiful Song of the Enchanter by Thea Musgrave; a piece commissioned to honour the anniversary of Sibelius’ birth.
We are delighted the orchestra have chosen to perform a work by their most revered national composer, Arvo Pärt, a gesture recognizing the connection between Britain and Estonia; Pärt greatly admired Britten, who he described as possessing an “unusual purity”, which he himself sought. Before the interval, internationally renowned star pianist Freddy Kempf will treat us to an impassioned performance of Rachmaninov’s first piano concerto.
Conductor: Olari Elts
Soloist: Freddy Kempf
