New Norwich company Vatic Theatre present a compelling blend of movement and music, created for, and performed in, the atmospheric cloisters of Norwich Cathedral.

A two metre rise in water levels would see the river Wensum at the base of Norwich Cathedral. What do we do with such facts? How are they relevant to our lives? Are they anxiety inducing, or can they be hopeful rallying-cries?

These are the questions that Vatic Theatre explored with communities across Norwich and with climate scientists. Their voices inspired a physical score devised by the company; a story told through mood and movement, and an original composition by award-winning composer Bill Vine.

Join the company for this free and accessible event fusing together these responses, placing them in conversation with the stunning architecture of the Cathedral cloisters. Watch the physical performers, whilst headsets immerse you in the music. Bookend the experience by viewing an exhibition of art-work made by the communities who have informed the piece. Vatic welcomes you for a moment of reflection, response and empowerment as it links our past to our possible future and asks…

What shall we do now?

Norwich Under the Water is the creation of Vatic Theatre, developed and produced in partnership with Norwich Theatre and with the support of Norwich Puppet Theatre and Norwich Cathedral. The work has been inspired by Norwich Over the Water communities represented by YMCA, Age UK, and Get Me Out The Four Walls. The project has been researched in collaboration with Climate UEA and the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, and is funded by Arts Council England.

Devising creative responses to the big questions of our time, Vatic is a new physical theatre company, making work with, and bringing work to, the communities of Norwich.
