A new devised show about conforming to, and rebelling against, the status quo.
Tamed is a dark comedy about how our behaviour, thought and agency has been tamed by the societies we live in.
Using Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew as reference, an all-female chorus re-imagine the character of Kate and take turns to present their versions of the tamed and untamed woman. From the biblical to the recognisably mundane, they explore themes of marriage, motherhood, loneliness, power and fear.
Merging text, movement & technology and drawing on the epic and the ridiculous, this is a multifaceted, immersive and dynamic show that challenges expectations and disrupts the expectations.
In this era of social media, fake-news, sensationalism, extremism, theories and tropes, this show questions the extent to which our thought, agency and behaviour has been tamed.
This project has been funded by Arts Council England National Lottery Grants and Norfolk County Council.
