Singin’ in the Rain captures the Hollywood movie transition from silent pictures to the new talkies, following film co-stars Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont. When Monumental Studios turns the silent film, The Dueling Cavalier into the all-singing, all-dancing The Dancing Cavalier, they are faced with a problem: Lina’s shrill and squeaky voice, which might just end her career. As Kathy Selden, an aspiring actress, steps in to save the studio, she begins to fall in love, leaving Don Lockwood with difficult decisions both on and off-screen.
The show features some of the best-loved comedy routines ever, plus toe-tapping dance numbers and classic musical theatre songs, including Good Mornin’, Make ‘em Laugh, Broadway Melody, and the show-stopping title number, Singin’ in the Rain.
2025 will see NNOS celebrating 100 years of performances with a splash with a musical from the golden age of movies. Pouring with laughs, charm, romance, and wit, this is the perfect way to celebrate the NNOS centenary.
Linda Campbell, Vice Chair at NNOS said: “We are very fortunate to have attracted some of the best talent from across Norfolk, with an incredible principal cast, supported by a strong ensemble and some fabulous dancers. Rehearsals are underway and the company are working hard on the exciting choreography for the many song and dance numbers in the show.
“This is the first time in our 100 year history we have produced this technically challenging show, and it’s a wonderful and fitting tribute to celebrate our centenary with a spectacular production of this golden-age musical.”
