What COVID-19 control measures will be in place when I visit the theatre?

Enhanced cleaning regimes throughout the venue before, during and after each performance.
• The auditorium is sanitised before every show using our integral misting system.
• Air purifiers are operational in front of house areas throughout the day.
• Hand sanitiser units will be available throughout the venue.
• Plastic screens at the Theatre Royal Box Office

Do I need to wear a face covering?

Face coverings are not mandatory, it is at our patrons’ discretion.

Are you going to be checking COVID passports?

We are not required to implement vaccine passport checks as the updated measures currently only apply to unseated indoor venues with more than 500 people.

Is the box office still open to buy tickets?

The box office is still open to buy tickets in person. Tickets can also be purchased online at or over the phone at 01603 630 000.

Are food and drink available?

Our bars, cafe and restaurant will be open as usual, so there is no change to your theatre experience.

What if I test positive with COVID-19 or need to self-isolate, will I get a refund?

Tickets are exchangeable but not refundable. If you develop Covid-19 symptoms or test positive for Coronavirus, simply call us on 01603 630000 before 11am on the day of the show and we will exchange your tickets for a different date within the run if possible or issue a credit note for future events for the person who has tested positive.

What happens if a show is cancelled?

In the event of a show/performance or other activity being cancelled, ticket holders will be refunded the face value of the ticket(s) purchased.

These guidelines will be updated regularly to comply with the latest Government’s guidance and regulations.

Booking online is the quickest and easiest route to booking your tickets. However, you can also book your tickets by phone or in person at our Box Office, which is situated in the foyer.

Our Box Office is open for phone bookings Mon – Sat 10am to 6pm. In person bookings in Theatre Royal are also open Mon – Sat 10am – 6pm

Gift vouchers

Gift vouchers can be purchased online or through our Box Office and may be redeemed for all shows, interval drinks, workshops, tours, memberships and dining in Prelude at the Theatre Royal.
