You cannot beat the theatre for pure escapism, but you don’t need to go to London to see some of the best shows the West End has to offer! Norwich Theatre Royal has some amazing bobby dazzlers for you to enjoy and escape this summer, check out a few below: 

 Heathers the Musical | 13 – 17 Jun 

Westerberg High’s Veronica Sawyer is just another nobody dreaming of a better day. But when she joins the beautiful and impossibly cruel Heathers and her dreams of popularity may finally come true, mysterious teen rebel JD teaches her that it might kill to be a nobody, but it is murder being a somebody. Based on the iconic 80s film that starred Winona Ryder.

Blood Brothers | 27 Jun – 1 Jul 

Written by Willy Russell, the legendary Blood Brothers tells the captivating and moving tale of twins who, separated at birth, grow up on opposite sides of the tracks, only to meet again with fateful consequences. The superb score includes Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe, and the emotionally charged hit Tell Me It’s Not True. 

Annie | 7 – 12 Aug 

The smash hit production of the musical Annie is heading to Norwich. The show will star Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood as the tyrannical Miss Hannigan in a musical loved by young and old. 

Set in 1930s New York during The Great Depression. It sees brave young Annie forced to live a life of misery at Miss Hannigan’s orphanage. But her luck soon changes when she’s chosen to spend a fairytale Christmas with famous billionaire Oliver Warbucks. Meanwhile, spiteful Miss Hannigan has other ideas and hatches a plan to spoil Annie’s search for her true family. 

Greatest Days | 7 – 12 Aug 

Relight Your Fire with this sensational new production of Take That’s musical Greatest Days. Perfect for Take That fans featuring more than 15 record-breaking songs from the band alongside a heart-warming and hilarious story of love, loss and laughter that will make your heart Shine. 

The musical follows five boy band-obsessed best friends in the 1990s who reunite over 20 years later to see their heartthrobs one last time in what could be the Greatest Days of their life. 

The Bodyguard – 28 Aug – 2 Sep 

Based on the classic 90s romantic thriller that starred Whitney Houston, where former Secret Service agent turned bodyguard Frank Farmer is hired to protect superstar Rachel Marron. Each expects to be in charge; what they don’t expect is to fall in love. 

The Bodyguard features a host of irresistible classics, including Queen of the Night, I Wanna Dance with Somebody and one of the biggest hit songs of all time: I Will Always Love You. 

The Ocean at the End of the Lane – 5 – 9 Sep 

From the imagination of best-selling author Neil Gaiman comes the National Theatre’s major new stage adaptation. This thrilling adventure of fantasy, myth and friendship is a five-star spectacular that blends magic with memory in a tour-de-force of storytelling to take audiences on an epic journey. 

The Rocky Horror Show – 11 – 16 Sep 

The cult story of two squeaky clean college kids, Brad and his fiancée, Janet. When by a twist of fate, their car breaks down outside a creepy mansion, they meet the charismatic Dr Frank’n’Furter. It is an adventure they will never forget, filled with fun, frolics, frocks, and frivolity. 

The Drifters Girl – 19 – 23 Sep 

Discover the remarkable story of the Drifters and the truth about the woman who made them. From the highs of hit records to the lows of legal battles and personal tragedy, Faye Treadwell is the legendary manager of The Drifters, who refused to give up on the group she loved.  

Life of Pi – 25 Sep – 30 Sep 

Based on one of the best-loved works of fiction, Life of Pi is a breathtaking new theatrical adaptation of an epic journey of endurance and hope. After a cargo ship sinks in the middle of the vast Pacific Ocean, there are five survivors stranded on a single lifeboat: a hyena, a zebra, an orangutan, a Bengal tiger, and a sixteen-year-old and time is against them.
