All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players. Inspired by the words of Shakespeare the community of Norwich are coming together to tell the stories of this fine city through the words of William Shakespeare.
To celebrate the bard’s birthday, Norwich Theatre will be holding a special event – Welcome Evening: Shakespeare Nation – to mark the return of Shakespeare Nation, as part of our long-running partnership with the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC). The event, held on 23 Apr, will take place at Norwich Theatre Stage Two and is completely free to attend.
If you love Shakespeare, come and grab your complimentary drink as you enjoy an art exhibition, production films, meet previous RSC participants, and learn exclusive information about the upcoming production, all inspired by Hamlet!
Join the ranks of our previous community productions, such as A Comedy of Errors, bringing together people with disabilities through FABBA Theatre Company and The Hamlet, or the Palm to Palm project in conjunction with Evolve, a peer support group for young people to explore their sexual/gender identity.

“This year’s partnership project with the RSC is so exciting and ambitious, we can’t wait to welcome our community of participants into the Shakespeare Nation project!” says Sam Beal, Creative Engagement & Audiences Manager.
Come to find out how you can get involved in the production with our free Citizen Theatre Maker sessions running over the summer, where you can explore Shakespeare through music, movement and spoken word, as well as an experimental session inspired by Ophelia and Gertrude, reimaging the roles of women through a contemporary lens.
The groups will initially work on their own part of the production before coming together to form a community company for a new production, taking place in Norwich Theatre venues and beyond this autumn.
Commenting on the production, Sam said: “This production will be an innovative, brave, inclusive work born of communities, [with] incredible stories [from] our Citizen Theatre Makers.”
