We are celebrating World Children’s Day at Norwich Theatre, a day to reflect upon building a better world for the younger generation. As an arts organisation, we understand that theatre is integral in children’s lives, offering them a safe space for their creativity to flow. We have compiled a list of family shows in celebration of World Children’s Day, where children can relax and let their imaginations run wild.
The Cat in the Hat | Norwich Theatre Playhouse | 11 – 22 Dec | Age 3+
Experience mischief this Christmas and see the acclaimed stage adaptation of a Dr Seuss favourite. Join the most mischievous cat that Sally and her brother have ever met on a hilarious adventure. Perfect for children aged over three, expect the trickiest of tricks and craziest of ideas!
Adventures in Science | Norwich Theatre Playhouse | 16 Feb | Age 6+
There are experiments and tomfoolery galore in this show, stuffed with magic, science and a wisecracking cartoon crow. Best known as one half of magic duo ‘Morgan & West’, The Magical Mr West has travelled around the world performing to audiences of all ages with spectacular shows. Expect skills, silliness, and the studious application of logic.
The Night Sky Show | Norwich Theatre Royal | 16 Feb | Age 8+
Encourage your mini astronaut and discover the universe like never before with astronomer and author Adrian West (aka VirtualAstro). Using big screen visual effects, this show will take you on a fantastic and epic journey across the cosmos from our celestial back garden.
Horrible Histories 3D: Awful Egyptians | Norwich Theatre Royal | 26 Feb – 1 Mar | Age 5+
From the fascinating Pharaohs to the power of the pyramids, discover the foul facts of death and decay with the meanest mummies in Egypt. Are you ready to rumble with Ramesses the Great? Dare you enter through the Gates of the afterlife? It’s the history of Egypt with the nasty bits left in!
Horrible Histories 3D: Terrible Tudors | Norwich Theatre Royal | 27 Feb – 1 Mar | Age 5+
From the horrible Henries to the end of evil Elizabeth, hear the legends (and the lies!) about the torturing Tudors. Find out the fate of Henry’s headless wives and his punch-up with the Pope. Meet Bloody Mary and see Ed fall dead in his bed. Survive the Spanish Armada as it sails into the audience! It’s Tudor history with the nasty bits left in!
The Frog and the Princess and Other Stories | Norwich Theatre Stage Two | 9 Mar | Age 3+
This beautiful adaptation of Grimm’s most magical tales features beasts, breadcrumbs, wolves and witches. But all Froggy really wants is to hear a story starring someone like him. Told through spellbinding puppetry and original music, help elves make beautiful shoes, meet the princess who is a champion of hide-and-seek, and see if Froggy finally gets his wish!
English Touring Opera present: The Vanishing Forest | Norwich Theatre Stage Two | 15 Mar | Age 7+
Following the events of A Midsummer Night’s Dream the world has changed. Trees are being chopped down, and with each tree felled, more magic disappears from the land. Puck wants to educate and inspire children over seven on the issue of deforestation with Shakespearean-infused song, puppetry and adventure.
English Touring Opera present: What Dreams May Come | Norwich Theatre Stage Two | 15 Mar | Age 8+
Mixing puppetry with music performed by a chamber ensemble, this new production explores the timeless appeal of Shakespeare’s words and characters for composers and audiences throughout history. Older children can indulge in this beautiful new show, sung in original language with English surtitles.
Whipped Up! | Norwich Theatre Stage Two | 16 Mar | Age 0 months – 2 years
This is the perfect show for little one’s first theatre trip. Baby is the customer in a 50’s style diner on Dottie’s first day as a server. Stimulating for tiny audience members with sensory play served up throughout the show, and hilarious for parents/adults watching their loved ones take on roles in an unfolding comedy.
Juan Solo’s Excellent Adventure in Space | Norwich Theatre Playhouse | 16 Apr | Age 5+
Could this be the kids first stand-up show? Head on a daring journey through the galaxy in Juan Solo’s rust bucket of a ship! After being tasked to transport 100 humans to the Galactic Holiday Empire’s latest resort, it’s been made very clear that any children onboard will be vaporised! There will be sarcasm, stand-up comedy and silliness in this chaotic, interactive adventure show!
Pig Heart Boy | Norwich Theatre Royal | 23 – 26 Apr | Age 8+
Based on the novel by award-winning writer Malorie Blackman OBE, the story follows 13-year-old Cameron, who is desperate to be normal. All he wants is to have friends, go to school, and dive in the local swimming pool, but he urgently needs a heart transplant. Follow Cameron as he chooses how far he will go to get his life back.
