Norwich Theatre’s newest take part activity doesn’t just offer a special community for music-loving parents and their little ones; it creates a space where you can truly belong. The Singing Through Parenthood sessions are more than just a meetup; they’re a chance for parents to connect, share, and understand each other through the universal language of music.
Raising your voice together is more than just music; it can have a healing effect on your wellbeing. A study from The Royal College of Music and Imperial College London found that after just six weeks of singing, mums experienced a significant decrease in symptoms of postnatal depression.
Singing through Parenthood offers a friendly, nonjudgmental community of like-minded people. Led by singer, community music specialist, and mum Haley Glennie-Smith, the group will raise the voice together to sing some toe-tapping tunes from a range of styles – from pop to musical theatre and more.
Singing with your child is a powerful tool for their development, from language skills to bonding. Your voice is your child’s favourite sound, so whether you’re a seasoned soprano or secret shower singer, these sessions will empower you to find harmony in your life.
Each session is complemented by Norwich Theatre’s Sensory Storytime, which features a tangle of soft, sensory sculptures and storybooks to delight and intrigue your little ones.
The group sessions are held in Norwich Theatre Royal’s beautiful Long Bar and provides a comfortable and welcoming environment for you and your little one, with baby changing facilities on both floors. Enjoy a hot drink or a tasty treat in the Café Royal before or after the session.
Singing through Parenthood is for all parents, and preschool children are welcome. A free taster session will be held on Tue 21 May. The full sessions start on Thu 4 Jun at £35 for five sessions.
