This month, expect some of your favourite shows, an exciting new musical, a ballet based on a classic tale, immersive shows in a shipping container, and two singers who might have you walking in the air! Get out your diaries; you’re going to want to see if you are free.

All shows go on sale to the public on the last Friday of the month [Fri 26 Apr]. Norwich Theatre Friends and Ambassadors enjoy priority access, plus extra benefits such as half price first night on most dramas.

Everybody say yeah for some of your favourite musicals, including Kinky Boots (4 – 8 Mar 25) strutting its way to Norwich Theatre Royal. After inheriting his family’s failing shoe factory and with a relationship on the rocks, life is proving to be very challenging for Charlie Price. That is until he meets Lola, a drag queen whose sparkle and unsteady heels might hold the answer. It features Strictly Come Dancing royalty Johannes Radebe as the glamorous Lola.

For even more razzle dazzle, you cannot beat Chicago (14 – 19 Jul 25) at Norwich Theatre Royal. Set amidst the decadence of the 1920s, Chicago is the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago’s slickest criminal lawyer to transform her malicious crime into a barrage of sensational headlines, the likes of which might just as easily be ripped from today’s tabloids.

For the newest musical on the block (AKA Norwich Theatre Playhouse), check out The Highwayman (14 – 18 Aug 24). This brand-new musical is a Norwich Theatre co-production with theatre company, OVO. Inspired by Alfred Noyes’ classic poem, The Highwayman is about longing for better while trying to run from the worst of our past.

Charlotte Brontë’s classic novel Jayne Eyre (20 – 24 May 25) is transformed by Northern Ballet with heart-stirring choreography and music that captures the essence of her timeless tale. When Jane accepts a position as Governess at Thornfield Hall, little does she expect a spark to kindle between her and the brooding Mr Rochester. As you watch her fall under his spell, something hides in the shadows, waiting to destroy her happiness.

Aled Jones (8 May 25) will be walking in the air to Norwich Theatre Playhouse for an evening looking back on a remarkable career. This one-man show will feature never-before-heard music, tales from the decades and, for the first time, his story told in his own words. Also taking to the Playhouse stage is Will Young (30 Oct 24), who will give a personal evening of acoustic performances, stories, and conversation.

Find your next comedy favourite at Norwich Theatre Playhouse with Amy Gledhill (29 Sep 24), Myra DuBois (16 Oct 24) and Ania Magliano (22 Mar 25).

At Norwich Theatre Stage Two, catch magician and mind illusionist Sean Alexander for One Moment in Time (14 Jul 24), try a story about a son of the god of the sun Helios (13 Oct 24), listen to local poet Lewis Buxton (25 Oct 24) with his guide to making new friends, or why not go on a quest to uncover how the economy wins elections or listen with It’s the Economy, Stupid! (19 Oct 24).

Going Norwich Theatre Beyond are two DARKFIELD shows, ARCADE and SÉANCE (5 – 16 Jun). DARKFIELD makes strange worlds unfold in a completely dark shipping container, using 360-degree binaural sound and sensory effects. ARCADE is an interactive narrative that uses the aesthetic of 1980s video games to explore the evolving relationship between players and avatars. SÉANCE as you imagine a Victorian séance room. Over 20 minutes, it explores the psychology of a group of people and asks that they believe in what might be conjured up in the room with them. Both shipping containers will be outside The Forum.
