This Sunday between 10am-3pm (24 July), Norwich Theatre will open its doors for its annual Open Day. The event is completely free to attend and will have a host of family fun and activities for all ages.

During the day, you can listen to a story, see some dazzling costumes, collect the clues on the activity trail linked to this year’s pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk and even get your face painted.

The event will also give visitors the chance to go on an access-all-areas theatre tour, with guided tours running all day. The tours will explore the dressing rooms backstage and even stand on the historic stage that has hosted so many iconic shows.

Our technical team will be on hand to answer questions about what it takes to stage the magical productions you see and you can even try your hand at lighting the stage for yourself.

In addition, there will be an opportunity to browse the theatre’s archive of show programmes and posters and explore what it means to be a Theatre of Sanctuary. At Norwich Theatre’s restaurant Prelude, visitors will be able to meet Head Chef Jesús and discover how he chooses the pre-theatre menu.

If all the activity gives you an appetite, the Café Royal will serve a selection of paninis, wraps, salads and sweet treats, and hot and cold drinks.

Stephen Crocker CEO and Creative Director of Norwich Theatre said:

“We are so excited to invite everyone to come along and experience behind the scenes of one of the largest theatres in the region. Whatever your curiosity or passion is about the theatre come and explore it, from the technical staging to costumes, our commitment to being a sanctuary for those in need to simply relaxing with a delicious drink in the café.

“This year is particularly momentous for us as it is the first time Norwich Theatre has been able to host the Open Day since the Covid-19 pandemic. It will be very special to welcome everyone once more to get creative at the theatre and importantly to thank everyone for their support during that difficult time. We hope to see you all there!”
