Following the creative community enquiry that was carried out by Norwich Theatre in autumn 2021, we are now looking to deepen our consultation with Global Majority residents in Norfolk through a Global Majority Creative Community Enquiry.
Global Majority is a collective term that refers to people who are Black, African, Asian, Brown, dual-heritage, indigenous to the global south, and or have been racialised as ‘ethnic minorities’. It is a term that encourages recognition of the historic delegation of the aforementioned peoples as ‘minorities’ despite data suggesting that they make up over 80% of the world’s population, and are therefore the majority.
We want to have an open conversation to identify if the Global Majority population of Norfolk visit the theatre, and if not, what would enable and encourage them to visit.
This autumn through conversations, creative activities and workshops we will explore these relationships. We will listen to stories from individuals and groups to help us better co-create a future built upon possibilities, inclusivity, partnerships and collaborations. This important consultation with communities will inform our future work and how we connect with global majority audiences.
By the end of this enquiry we hope that we have answers to the following:
- How do people from the Global Majority population of Norfolk want to access activities or discover theatre for the very first time?
- What stories do Global Majority communities want to tell and/or hear?
- What themes are relevant and meaningful to Global Majority communities?
- What are the opportunities for Norwich Theatre to connect with the Global Majority population of Norfolk?
How to get involved
