This musical adapted for the stage from the golden-age movie of the same name comes to Norwich Theatre Royal between 28 Jan – 1 Feb 25.

Pouring with laughs, charm, romance, and wit, expect high-energy dance routines and classic songs from the movie. This is the perfect way to celebrate the NNOS centenary.

Linda Campbell, Vice Chair at NNOS said: “Our sparkling year of centenary celebrations kicks off with a spectacular production of Singin’ in the Rain, followed by a variety of exciting events throughout the year.

“Singin’ in the Rain is a much loved classic, which will transport us to the glamorous golden age of musicals, in our golden centenary year! It’ll be a spectacular new production and it’s a show everyone can come along and enjoy, from grandparents to children!”

Singin’ in the Rain  captures the Hollywood movie transition from silent pictures to the new talkies, following film co-stars Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont. When Monumental Studios turns silent film, The Dueling Cavalier into the all-singing, all-dancing The Dancing Cavalier, they are faced with a problem:  Lina’s shrill and squeaky voice, which might just end her career. As Kathy Selden, an aspiring actress, steps in to save the studio, she begins to fall in love, leaving Don Lockwood with difficult decisions both on and off-screen.

The show features some of the best-loved comedy routines ever, plus toe-tapping dance numbers and classic musical theatre songs, including Good Mornin’, Make ‘em Laugh, Broadway Melody, and the show-stopping title number, Singin’ in the Rain.

Wendy Ellis, Creative Programmes and Audiences Director at Norwich Theatre said: “Norfolk and Norwich Operatic Society has been a part of the rich and creative history of our city and Norwich Theatre for many years. Audiences of all ages will have fantastic memories of performances by NNOS that they have seen over the years.

“At Norwich Theatre, we are proud to work with local partners, and the link between us and NNOS is strong. It is an absolute joy for NNOS to be celebrating their centenary with us and the fabulous musical Singin’ in the Rain.”

Established in 1925, The Norfolk and Norwich Operatic Society is one of the UK’s leading amateur theatre companies, performing top quality musicals at the regions premier theatre, Norwich Theatre Royal.

You don’t have to wait an entire year to see NNOS on stage! The uniquely British, heartwarming musical Betty Blue Eyes comes to Norwich Theatre Royal next week (23 – 27 Jan). The show includes a 10-piece band playing as well as six onstage actor-musicians. As well as stunning music, the show stars the life-size puppeteered pig, Betty.

Betty Blue Eyes is based on the 1984 Alan Bennett film ‘A Private Function’ that starred Michael Palin and Dame Maggie Smith. War has ended, but Britain’s long-suffering citizens are suffering under the burden of food rationing, high unemployment and the coldest winter for decades. The only bright spark on the horizon is the impending marriage of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip. Enter Betty, an adorable pig who is being illegally reared to ensure local dignitaries of a small community in Yorkshire can celebrate while the local population make do with Spam. Until someone inadvertently stumbles across Betty, leading to a kidnapping.
