Bring the children down to Norwich Theatre Stage Two on 29 May for an enchanting tale of beauty, loss and new beginnings with The Wish Gatherer by English Touring Opera. Follow Lola, a young girl on a journey to meet the magical Wish Gatherer, after facing recent difficulties with her parents’ divorce and the climate crisis.

On this musical adventure you will come across a range of magical characters! From the titular Wish Gatherer, helping children’s wishes come true, to the enchanting Seed Gatherer, helping keep the environment healthy. Keep your eyes peeled for the mysterious Muddier, who uses their magic to stop plants from growing.

This curriculum-linked adventure story is ideal for illuminating the climate crisis to 7–11-year-olds in a unique and engaging way. Touring 30 schools during its run, The Wish Gatherer aims to support and inspire children’s lives through introducing them to participatory opera. This new creative medium aims to educate Key Stage Two children about nature and how to fight climate change, teaching them about protecting bees and planting seeds.

At 45 minutes long, the show is the perfect length for children, with interactive elements and even their own chance to write a wish to give to the Wish Gatherer. Each child gets to leave with their own bookmark made of flower seeds, so they can plant their wishes and watch them grow!

The Wish Gatherer is the first instalment of a trilogy of climate change operas by English Touring Opera, made in collaboration with the pioneering green non-profit Julie’s Bicycle, a charity aiding the arts and culture industry to act on the ecological crisis.

Be swept away by the magic English Touring Opera brings to the performance. If you are looking for a participatory show to entice excitement in the children this May, this is a must see!
