Keep the whole family entertained over the February half term at Norwich Theatre with its take part activities inspired by the smash-hit musical SIX, a celebration of all things science with the Science Festival and our whole array of free activities, plus a weekend treat before the kids go back to school!

Free activities

Throughout Monday and Tuesday of February half-term, a free pop-up event will be available to families with children of all ages. You’re invited to immerse yourself in Tudor Britain and take part in craft activities in our café.

Be inspired by Tudor music on a spread of cushions and bean bags and take time to connect as a family – take part in free drawing and craft activities, including mindful colouring and origami. You will also find a series of costumes, props, and thought-provoking ideas, helping you engage with the theatre space around you and see the world differently.

No booking required! Find us in the cafe upstairs and take as much time as you need. It’s free to join and families of all ages and sizes are welcome to take part – no prior experience is necessary.

Take part activities

This half-term, all sessions are inspired by the smash hit musical SIX, which is on the Norwich Theatre Royal stage during the week.

Dance Day is an extended dance workshop exploring a musical theatre take on traditional Tudor dance. Everyone will work together to create the choreography for a group movement piece.

The Drama Day workshops are a fun and accessible approach to devising a piece of theatre. Participants will warm up with games and exercises before delving into the piece through acting, directing and movement.

Broken into half-day sessions – Dance and Drama – on 19 Feb and by age group, participants can build the perfect creative day for them. No experience is needed for either workshop.

Royal Families – Crown Making (20 Feb) is a chance for the whole family to celebrate the return of Six The Musical to Norwich and explore Tudor history by creating a dazzling array of crowns and accessories from unconventional materials. Work collaboratively as a family, and get crafty, creating unique crowns and regal accessories fit for a queen (or Six!).

Café Royal is open six days a week to meet friends or relax after a workshop. The café will offer a free cookie with every children’s hot chocolate or Fruit Shoot during the half term week. Don’t forget to stamp your loyalty card to get your tenth drink free.

Science-tastic

We have some great science shows which are a part of the science festival week. We have something for all the family: hear songs about dinosaurs in The Great Big Dinosaur Show (20 Feb), become a wildlife ranger with Maddie Moate’s Wildlife Rangers (17 Feb) and explore the forest with a puppet acorn in Breathe (17 Feb).

Don’t miss the chance to see CBBC Operation Ouch! Presenter Dr Dan in his space adventure (18 Feb), a TED talking juggler in What Does Stuff Do? (23 Feb) or find out about the science behind the films Jurassic World with Jon Chase (22 Feb).

Weekend Shows for the Whole Family

Finish the week on a high with two shows on the weekend.

The stars of CBBC’s number one show, Danny and Mick, are embarking on a new adventure in a faraway land that time forgot in Danny & Mick: Temple of Delusion (24 Feb) at Norwich Theatre Playhouse. Join our hapless heroes for another adventure full of mistakes, pitfalls, and danger!

Join Luna and her Dad for an adventure among the library shelves in this exciting new musical for families Luna Loves Library Day (25 Feb) at Norwich Theatre Playhouse. Based on the critically acclaimed book by Waterstones Children’s Laureate Joseph Coelho and illustrator Fiona Lumbers.
