Last year we launched the Café Royal, our fantastic café providing a welcoming space for all in the heart of the city.
The Café also supports Norwich Theatre commercially. By eating and drinking at the Café, customers feed directly into Norwich Theatre’s artistic and creative programmes and support its work with the community.
To wish Café Royal Happy Birthday, we spoke to CJ Ewens-Nicoll, Hospitality Supervisor at Norwich Theatre, about the Café a year on and working in the most theatrical Café in Norwich!
What do you love the most about working at Café Royal?
Cafe Royal is an incredible place to work. We like to create a relaxed environment and friendly atmosphere, and the fact we have gained some loyal regulars is a credit to this!

What do you think makes Café Royal unique compared to other places in Norwich?
Cafe Royal is completely unique from anywhere else in the city. Not only do we have two floors, plenty of space AND free WiFi.
We are proud to be part of Norwich Theatre, work alongside the spectacular show programme, and offer unique promotions, products and experiences!
What is your favourite time in the Café?
Coming into the cafe at 8.30am, you will be greeted by the smell of freshly baked pastries, sweet and savoury scones and our freshly brewed coffee – mornings are my favourite!
What are you most excited about working in the Café?
We are always excited to continue to update our food and drink offering, to suit the needs of our guests and have had fun creating some unique drinks!
I can’t wait to continue to meet some amazing future guests, and I am excited to share some secret seasonal offerings too!
