At Norwich Theatre, we are getting in the Valentine’s Day spirit. We are celebrating some of the most famous lovers to grace our stage!
From Romeo & Juliet to Shrek & Princess Fiona, romance is blooming, and there is so much around to see. Did your favourite pair make the list? Find out below:
Romeo & Juliet – RSC First Encounters with Shakespeare: Romeo & Juliet | 16-17 Feb | Norwich Theatre Playhouse
The tale of two star-crossed lovers torn away from one another by their feuding families, Romeo & Juliet serves as the classic love story.
The Royal Shakespeare Company bring an edited version of Shakespeare’s story of love, fate and tragedy, a classic re-written for the new generation.
If dance is more your thing, check out Northern Ballet’s version of the star-crossed lovers at Norwich Theatre Royal between 14 – 18 May.
Bonnie & Clyde – Bonnie & Clyde the Musical | 12-16 Mar | Norwich Theatre Royal
From small-town nobodies to heist partners, Bonnie & Clyde is the story of two Americans who come together to rob, fight, and kill their way to fortune.
Though they fall in love with one another, both are doomed to their marriages and not to each other. The infamous duo are seductive, shameless and fearless as they plan to go from rags to riches, capturing the nation’s heart.
The West End sensation of Bonnie & Clyde is set to take us on an adventure of forbidden romance, seduction and crime.
Shrek and Princess Fiona – Shrek the Musical | 26-30 Mar | Norwich Theatre Royal
Slay the fearsome dragon and save the princess from her castle; Shrek the Musical is a story with unforgettable songs, comedy and romance. Based on the widely loved film, our lonesome hero journeys with his sidekick, Donkey, as they adventure to save Princess Fiona.
There’s love, adventure, comedy… and a fight against a big dragon! With twists and turns around every corner, this is a story you won’t forget!
Edward and Kim – Edward Scissorhands | 16-20 Apr | Norwich Theatre Royal
A boy left unfinished and alone, having no place to call home in a community that can’t see past his odd appearance; Edward Scissorhands is the story of a young boy with scissors for hands who is invited to live with a suburban family.
Edward falls in love with Kim Biggs, the daughter. Though scared of him at first, Kim develops a fascination with Edward, later falling in love with him.
Forbidden love between a humanoid creation and a human girl, Matthew Bourne’s dance production of Edward Scissorhands has Burton’s suspenseful and all-right creepy atmosphere but has a sense of wonder and beauty through its dance production.
Danny and Sandy – Grease | 3 – 8 Jun | Norwich Theatre Royal
After a whirlwind summer romance, leather-clad greaser Danny and girl-next-door Sandy are unexpectedly reunited when she transfers to Rydell High for senior year. But can they survive the trials and tribulations of teenage life and find true love once more?
Nothing is like your first love! Sandy is hopelessly devoted to Danny and she is the only one that he wants!
Pongo and Perdita – 101 Dalmatians | 9 – 13 Jul | Norwich Theatre Royal
Looking for love, Pongo takes his owner, Rodger, to the park, where they meet Perdita and her owner, Anita. Soon after, a litter of adorable, tail-wagging young puppies arrive.
When fashionista Cruella de Vil plots to swipe all the Dalmatian puppies in town to create her fabulous new fur coat, there’s trouble ahead for Pongo and Perdi and their young pups.
The story you love is brought to life with new musical and spectacular puppetry that is just pawesome.
Tracey and Link – Hairspray | 10 – 15 Feb 25 | Norwich Theatre Royal
Welcome to the 60s, where everyone’s grooving to a brand-new sound! Enter Tracy Turnblad, with big hair, a big heart, and big dreams, to dance her way onto national TV.
Link, the handsome and popular teenage heartthrob quickly falls in love with Tracy, despite societal norms and prejudices. Their love blossoms as they defy the norms of the time, breaking down barriers and challenging the status quo.
This fun-filled, feel-good show is bursting with show-stopping numbers, dazzling costumes, and dizzying dance-routines that you can’t help but shimmy too!

Though not a story about a magnificent heist nor a battle against a fearsome dragon to save a princess, Norwich – A Love Story is still a spectacle to watch.
