Calling all Mario Kart stars, Princess Peach fans, and the best banana flingers in Norfolk for the mother of all Mario Kart offs!

For the Lord Mayor’s Weekend, Norwich Theatre will host Theatre Street Racing outside Norwich Theatre Royal on Sat 8 Jul. You will have the chance to enter our living room with four other racers and compete on the Royal’s giant screen.

Races will run from 12pm to 3pm. There will be a break for everyone to watch the parade, which leaves Surrey Street at 3pm and has the theme of Sights of the City. Don’t worry; the races will start back up at 5pm and go on until 8pm. You will be able to sign up on the day from 11am to race with your friends.

We will be keeping a tally of the points scored throughout the day. The best racers will be entered into a prize draw, so you best have your game face on!

Even non racers can enter our free raffle with the opportunity to win a brand new Nintendo Switch OLED and a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Game, and other Nintendo goodies so you can bring the joy of Mario and his friends into your living room.

James MacDonald, Head of Visitor Services at Norwich Theatre, said:

“The day is set to be great fun. The outside of the theatre will be turned into one big living room by our amazing theatre team. You will be able to pit yourself against your friends and family on the Royal’s video screen for the largest game of Mario Kart Norwich has ever seen.”

Speaking about the Lord Mayor’s weekend, Councillor Cate Oliver, cabinet member for wellbeing and culture at Norwich City Council, said: “We’ve put together a packed programme of carnival entertainment for everyone to enjoy over the Lord Mayor’s Weekend.

“It’s an opportunity to sample all the sights, sounds, tastes and voices of Norwich and Norfolk for our residents and visitors alike. We can’t wait to celebrate all that’s good in our fine city and invite you to join us.”
