Music fans are spoilt for choice at Norwich Theatre with a huge music line up celebrating some of the very best songs and musicians worldwide. All tastes are catered for with music from orchestras, jazz, opera and songs we all know and love.
1) Ronnie Scott’s All Stars | 23 Jun
Travel back to Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club with Ronnie Scott’s All Stars at Norwich Theatre Playhouse on 23 June. The show features classic music from the jazz greats who have performed at the basement music bar, alongside narration and projected archive images and rare footage. ‘The Ronnie Scott’s Songbook’ is a glimpse into this unique world and its incredible history that has seen landmark performances from the likes of Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck and Michael Bublé.
2) The Rocket Man – A Tribute to Elton John | 26 Jun
The Rocket Man – A Tribute to Elton John (26 June) at Norwich Theatre Royal is a stunning celebration of a musical great. A live band fronted by Jimmy Love, who plays Elton, will take you through the decades of hits including, Saturday Nights Alright (For Fighting), Crocodile Rock, I Guess That’s Why They Call it the Blues, Daniel, I’m Still Standing, Philadelphia Freedom, Your Song and many, many more.
Whether you were born in the 80s or a fan of the era, 80s Live (3 July) is the ultimate throwback! A live band will perform some of the very best music from this iconic era, including hits from Duran Duran, Bon Jovi, Culture Club, Madonna, Madness, The Human League, A-Ha, Tears for Fears and Wham.
4) Islands in the Stream | 5 Jul
For a treat after your 9 to 5, Islands in the Stream (5 July) at Norwich Theatre Royal is an unmissable tribute to country legends Dolly Parton and Kenny Rodgers. The show features songs such as Jolene, Ruby, Here You Come Again, The Gambler, I Will Always Love You, Coward of the County, and Islands in the Stream. Bring your cowboy hats for the ultimate country night!
5) Fastlove – A Tribute to George Michael | 9 Jul
A musical journey at Norwich Theatre Royal through the career of George Michael, starting from his early days in Wham! This is guaranteed to be a great night that will have the audience singing along.
6) Good Vibrations – Classic Beach Boys | 20 Jul
Mixing surfin’ guitars, stunning vocals and the English Philharmonic Orchestra, you will hear fabulous new orchestrations, bringing a completely new dimension to the Beach Boy hits. For a twist on the classic Beach Boys harmonies and sixties surfing sound, look no further than Good Vibrations – Classic Beach Boys at Norwich Theatre Royal on 20 July.
7) Anoushka Shankar with Britten Sinfonia | 30 Oct
Superstar sitar player Anoushka Shankar performs dazzling arrangements of her own music with orchestra Britten Sinfonia at Norwich Theatre Royal on 30 October. Prepare for a hypnotic evening of captivating tunes and enthralling sounds.
8) George Hinchliffe’s Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain | 7 Nov
Tap your toes with the royalty of the ukulele scene. This group of ukulele players is all-singing and all-strumming and believes that all genres of music are available for reinterpretation as long as they are played on the ukulele.
9) The Glyndebourne Tour – Mozart’s Requiem | 17 Nov
Classical music and opera fans don’t miss The Glyndebourne Tour – Mozart’s Requiem at Norwich Theatre Royal on 17 November. This special concert of instrumental and vocal works pairs music by French composer, Joseph Bologne – first star classical composer of African ancestry – with that of his contemporary and rival Mozart. Mozart’s Requiem puts the Glyndebourne Chorus in the spotlight.
10) Courtney Pine presents Spirituality featuring Zoe Rahman | 11 Oct
Ground-breaking saxophonist Courtney Pine CBE and MOBO award-winning pianist Zoe Rahman reunite once again. They share brand new material from Courtney’s forthcoming debut album, SPIRITUALITY at Norwich Theatre Playhouse on 11 October.
11) The Cavern Beatles | 12 Oct
Beatle mania will descend as The Cavern Beatles head to Norwich Theatre Playhouse on 12 October. The show is a Magical History Tour through the works of the greatest pop music phenomenon. The incredible cast that sounds like the Fab Four will play you hit after hit.
