My Theatre

Tickets for those in the community on low income

We know that times are tough for many in our community. Norwich Theatre is proud to introduce My Theatre, a new scheme for our audiences, offering £10 seats to those who might not be able to afford a performance otherwise.

About My Theatre
It is a scheme designed to make sure that creative experiences and theatre can be accessible for as many people as possible. The scheme offers audience members on low income the opportunity to access tickets for £10 to shows at Norwich Theatre Royal, subsidised or free places on Take Part activities, occasional discounts, offers and even the odd free ticket. There will still be £10 tickets available for audience members that do not qualify for My Theatre.

My Theatre is expanding to also include free or subsidised places on our Take Part activities.

How to join My Theatre
Firstly, you need to make a Norwich Theatre account, which you can do here. There is an application form which can be downloaded below. Simply fill it out and email it back to mytheatre@norwichtheatre.org, or collect a paper copy from the box office and complete by hand. It asks for some very basic details as well as for evidence of low income status. We will contact you to let you know you have been accepted onto the scheme and you will be able to view the £10 seats that are available!

How to book tickets
Easy! just the way you normally would. Once accepted onto the scheme our seating map will show some seats marked with a green star – this means that the seat is £10. Only people on the scheme will be able to see and book these seats. There are limited numbers available so if none are showing on the seating map, it means they are sold out for that particular performance. For Take Part activities when you receive the menu of activities on offer – use the code provided (in the email) to access your subsidised or free place at checkout!

Got a question about My Theatre, tickets or any of the shows? Email our Box Office team on info@norwichtheatre.org or call us on 01603 630 000

We do also offer a number of other concessions including Under 18s, Under 25s, Over 60s, Families, Groups, People with disabilities, Friends, Schools and many more. Check the individual event for all concessions available.

It is great that the theatre has engaged and taken on feedback about the barriers many people face in accessing the theatre. The arts are for everyone, but audiences do not reflect the community on its doorstep and beyond. Helping make sure that £10 tickets are better targeted is a positive step towards broadening participation. It’s not just about pricing though, and just as importantly the theatre has been flexible and welcoming to provide informal visits to residents in my community who had never set foot inside the theatre. This has helped them know what to expect, familiarise themselves with where things are and feel most comfortable about coming back for a performance. I look forward to working alongside the theatre to continue this positive work.

FAQS

Am I eligible for the scheme?

We have listed which evidence will be accepted on the application form, but we know that there may be occasions where you have alternative evidence to offer. All applications will be looked at on a case by case basis, but the initial list of evidence includes:

  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Income Support
  • Pension Credit
  • Working Tax Credit (low income category)
  • Housing Benefit
  • Council Tax Support
  • Universal Credit
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
How often do I have to join the scheme?

Membership to the scheme lasts for one year. You will be reminded that your membership is due to run out, and you simply have to resubmit your evidence if you would like to be on the scheme for another year!

What shows will be included?

To begin with, all shows that are at Theatre Royal for a week or more will have an allocation of My Theatre tickets available. They will go on sale with the general public on sales, which happen the last Friday of every month!

What activities are included?

As a member of My Theatre, you will receive a menu of our Take Part activities each term. Take Part activities range from theatre making workshops for all ages, creative social groups for over 65s, and termly and one off sessions for children and families, including our annual Family Festival. As a My Theatre member, you will be able to book onto Take Part programmes with a discount automatically applied. Spaces on sessions and programmes are available on a first come first served basis.

How often can I buy tickets or Take Part activities?

As often as you like! There is a limit of 6 tickets per person per show run, this is so that we can give as many people the chance to take advantage of the scheme as possible. To ensure everyone gets a chance to attend the workshop of their choice, we may limit termly usage.

Do I have to purchase my tickets as soon as they go on sale?

No, tickets will be available right up to 7 days before a performance unless already SOLD OUT.  Tickets can also be reserved for 5 working days before payment is needed.

After receiving the Take Part workshop menu, tickets should be booked as soon as possible, to ensure you don’t miss out.

There are no 'Green Stars' what does that mean?

If there are no ‘Green Stars’ on the seating map all £10 tickets for this performance are SOLD OUT. If might be worth contact our Box Office or checking back closer to the performance in case of returns.

What are the terms and conditions of the scheme?

All of our regular terms and conditions apply when joining and purchasing tickets through My Theatre. Acceptance on the scheme requires members to receive email communications from Norwich Theatre so that we can inform you about on sales, free tickets and special offers. You can withdraw from the scheme at any time. Any abuse of the terms and conditions can lead to your removal from the My Theatre scheme. Tickets cannot be re-sold or refunded unless in the circumstances outlined in the terms and conditions.

What will you do with my application and evidence?

Once the decision as to your membership of the scheme – we will delete or destroy all evidence. All applications sent to mytheatre@norwichtheatre.org will be deleted within 28 days of entry to the mailbox. Access to the mailbox is limited and all data handling and processing policies and procedures will apply as standard.
