We are honoured to have been shortlisted in this year’s Norfolk Arts Awards: for the dedication and commitment to diversity of our Creative Communities Producer, Miche Montague; our partnership in supporting new writing with Royal Shakespeare Company on 37 Plays; and our new Norwich Theatre Talks podcast hosted by Stephen Crocker!
The Norfolk Arts Awards is a celebration of the absolute best of arts and culture in Norfolk. Voting is open until 11:59pm on Wednesday 31 May: https://norfolkartsawards.org/vote/
In the Diversity category, Miche Montague, our Creative Communities Producer and a practicing artist with a long association with Norwich Theatre, has been shortlisted for her work offering diverse arts opportunities to young people from across Norfolk. Led by Miche, our current Theatre Makers: Theatre of Sanctuary is powerful and creative programme, in which we offer a safe space for creativity. Another project within Miche’s portfolio of work is Next Generation where young people have been focussed on having a voice around mental health post lockdown.
37 Plays is a nationwide playwriting search for the most exciting new voices of today and is nominated in the New Writing category. It is led by Royal Shakespeare Company in partnership with several regional theatres across the country, including Norwich Theatre. We are proud to be one of the RSC’s associate theatres and ran workshops over the year to help people develop new scripts. The plays have now been chosen and will be performed across the UK and online this autumn.
Finally, we are also pleased to be shortlisted in the Broadcast and Media category for the Norwich Theatre Talks podcast. This new initiative represents a huge team effort to show and celebrate everything we value across our whole programme and the incredible range of people, talents and skills that make this possible. Hosted by Stephen Crocker and recorded from ‘Podcast Corner’ in the Playroom at the Playhouse, we feature remarkable people from the creative industry – including Derren Brown, Sir Matthew Bourne and Suzi Ruffell – alongside members of the Norwich Theatre Team. They’ve talked about creative engagement and community work, the climate, women in production and technical roles, mental health… even what it takes to keep the buildings functioning! It is available to watch and listen on Spotify, YouTube, and Norwich Theatre Digital Stage.
We were delighted to have been longlisted in so many categories are very touched to have had three of our directors team personally nominated for the work that they lead. We thank all those who have expressed such kindness and gratitude by nominating us and our work. At Norwich Theatre we are committed to being inclusive, impactful, and proving all manner of Creative Experiences, as a charity, as individuals, and as producer and host of world class performances.
