Nine local residents will be heading out on tour as a part of Home from Home. In this innovative collaboration, local dancers from Cadenza, led by Laura Anderson, have joined forces with dancers from Ipswich and London to create a new performance under the artistic direction of renowned choreographer Luca Silvestrini (Protein Dance).
The whole cast features over 40 dancers, all over the age of 50 – Home from Home can boast one of the largest casts of older dancers to perform anywhere in England.
The pioneering dance performance produced by EncoreEast and created by Luca will be making its world premiere at DanceEast, Ipswich, before heading to Norwich Theatre Playhouse on 19 October and sell-out performance in London.
The work began life as four works created by different choreographers from each venue. This has then been worked into one seamless, heartwarming and empowering celebration of later life.
Cadenza’s dancers include Elaine Abbott, Eleanor Fisk, Elizabeth Dane, Pat Hinde, Dee Mac, Diana Redman, Janice Sinclair, Jeannie Sowler and Rosalind Taylor.
Laura Anderson, Artistic Director of Cadenza, said: “Home from Home has been an incredible opportunity to connect with other groups across the UK, push our creativity and showcase the wealth of talent and experience that the dancers have. I really hope that the performance will bring our work to a wider audience and challenge expectations of what contemporary dance looks like and who it is for.”
Speaking about the project, Jez Pike, Head of Creative Development at Norwich Theatre, said: “Norwich Theatre is delighted to have co-commissioned Home from Home as part of our continuing commitment to supporting the development of new dance.
“The intimacy of the Playhouse will be the perfect setting to connect to this empowering and heartwarming celebration of lived-in experience, created through an innovative collaboration between community voices and exceptional choreographers.”
Luca Silvestrini commented: “I am incredibly excited by the innovative nature of this project and the impact it’s going to have. It’s refreshing to see several choreographers, companies of older dancers and venues coming together, combining their different voices and experiences and contributing towards a seamless and cohesive piece of dance theatre. It’s great to be orchestrating this with the wonderful and inspiring EncoreEast, and thanks to DanceEast, The Place and Norwich Theatre for supporting such a pioneering initiative.”
