From ballet and breakdance to physical theatre and everything in between, Norwich Theatre is celebrating all things movement based with Norwich Moves.

Shows under Norwich Theatre’s Norwich Moves branding provide an opportunity to experience storytelling in a way where words are not the focus. They have been selected to feature world class and celebrated choreographers, dancers and artists.

As a part of Norwich Moves, Norwich Theatre Royal will welcome Matthew Bourne’s Sleeping Beauty (4 – 8 Apr) on its 10th anniversary tour. Speaking about the piece Matthew Bourne said: “What’s great about recreating a classical ballet, is you’ve got this incredible score that was all written to dance to. The music becomes your script and tells you what the feeling and the emotion of each scene should be.”

Sleeping Beauty sees you enter a wondrous world of magical fairies and vampires, where the timeless tale of good vs evil is turned upside-down, creating a supernatural love story that even the passage of time itself cannot hinder.  Matthew commented: “The story is about the power of love, it’s about love across time that’s indestructible. That’s why I call it a gothic romance because the overriding emotion is love, and how two people be together despite everything.”

At Norwich Theatre Playhouse, check out Joss Arnott’s Tin Man(14 – 16 Apr) and Rosie Kay’s award-winning show, 5 Soldiers(20 – 22 Apr). Tin Man is a visually stunning dance production for families and children aged 7+ and explores a re-imagined story seen through the rusty eyes of the Tin Man. Rosie Kay’s 5 Soldiers is a thrilling and humane portrait of army life, stories of four men and one woman serving on the front line. Don’t miss the post-show discussion to explore the themes in more depth.

It’s not just about shows. The world’s largest hip hop festival Breakin’ Convention will takeover Norwich Theatre Royal on 27 May with worldclass dancing as well as DJs, graffiti artists and freestyle dance sessions. If you want to get moving, why not try some of Norwich Theatre’s amazing take-part opportunities. Plus other ways to get involved, such as   Unwind with Movement (8 Jun – 6 Jul) a relaxed session focused on boosting your wellbeing and for your little ones Sing, Dance, Play (21 Apr – 23 Jun) to get them up and dancing to music.

Look out for the Norwich Moves sticker on Norwich Theatre’s website and brochure for more movement shows and activities to try.
