Norwich Theatre Announces Two New Trustees to its Board

Norwich Theatre is delighted to announce the appointment of two new trusteesAnna Mudeka and Judeline Nicholas, to its Board.

The recruitment process, which attracted a range of impressive candidates, focussed on bringing new and diverse experiences from theatre makers, practitioners, and those with experience of promoting and celebrating equity, diversity and inclusivity.

Anna Mudeka is a musician, singer and actress and has run her own charity for 10 years. She has experience organising and managing festivals and large events. Anna has a background in music and arts of the sub-Saharan cultures, engaging with different age groups through song, dance and storytelling.

Judeline Nicholas is the current chair of the Norfolk Race Equality and Human Rights Network and a learning and development specialist in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) matters. She works with organisations to raise awareness and support the commitment to their values that embody EDI for their workers and clients.

The two new trustees will work alongside the current Board members, including Michael Newey (Chairman), David Fullman, Nick Lloyd, Laura McGillivray, Tim Seeley, Sharon Wilson and Toby Wilson.

Speaking about why she wanted to join Norwich Theatre’s Board, Anna Mudeka said: “I wanted to be involved in inspiring what matters in my city when it comes to the arts and entertainment. I  hope to influence the demographics of new audiences, especially those from other cultures and deprived areas.”

Speaking about her new role, Judeline Nicholas said: “I am keen to put what I can in the ‘community pot’. This role offers the opportunity to reach a wide group of people who could potentially benefit from what Norwich Theatre has to offer.

“I am eager to construct and strengthen links to community groups in Norwich and more widely across Norfolk. Some may feel that the theatre is not for them just because they have never had any real contact with all it has to offer. It can heal, it can connect, and it can create energy for limitless possibilities.

“This is a time of challenge for many. The ever-lengthening feeling of winter and isolation impacts mental health – Norwich Theatre has committed to supporting mental wellbeing for individuals and the wider community. The Board and staff are determined to make that difference, and I am proud to be part of that commitment.”

Chair of the Norwich Theatre Board of Trustees, Michael Newey said: “At Norwich Theatre our board of trustees plays a vital role in ensuring that we live out our Charitable mission, supporting our team to deliver an ambitious strategy. We are delighted to welcome Anna Mudeka and Judeline Nicholas to the board and look forward to working with them to make all our creative experiences have the most wide-reaching positive impacts possible.”
