The collections took place after shows at all three of our venues: Norwich Theatre Royal, Norwich Theatre Playhouse and Norwich Theatre Stage Two since 12 March 2022 and finished at the end of Private Peaceful on 18 June.

To add to the funds raised, we donated 50p from every ticket sold for Private Peaceful (16 – 18 June, Norwich Theatre Royal) to the appeal.

The DEC is a registered charity [No. 1062638], which is raising funds for food, water, medicine, protection and trauma care for people fleeing the war. Every pound donated by the UK public to the DEC will be matched by the UK Government, up to the value of £20m.

More than 6 million people have fled Ukraine since the conflict began, with another 7 million people displaced inside the country. DEC charities are in Ukraine and neighbouring countries, meeting the needs of people affected by the conflict.

Disasters Emergency Committee Chief Executive, Saleh Saeed said:

“This is a fantastic amount to have raised. I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone at Norwich Theatre and the audiences who have given so generously in response. The conflict in Ukraine is having a devastating effect on families, displacing more than a quarter of the population. Many of those people are now living in shelters in buildings, including theatres, and it’s been amazing to see arts organisations around the UK doing so much to raise awareness and funds for those in need. Our appeal is helping people in Ukraine and neighbouring countries right now with basic necessities like accommodation, food, water and medical care, as well as psychological support and access to education for children, but we know we must keep up that support in the months and years to come.”

Stephen Crocker, Chief Executive and Creative Director at Norwich Theatre, said,

“The events in Ukraine have shocked us all. As a Theatre of Sanctuary, we believe it is our duty to do something, and our audience has felt the same with a fantastic amount raised. We are overwhelmed with the outpouring of support for the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.”
