Norwich Theatre’s High Performance Live, made with podcasters Jake Humphrey and Damian Hughes, heads to the iconic London Palladium next week (Thu 20 Apr) in a first for the Norfolk-based theatre.
This show is a continuation of Norwich Theatre’s ambition to originate and produce small and large-scale work for its local audience and touring across the UK and internationally. Following London, High Performance will visit Nottingham, Oxford, Northampton, Glasgow, Guildford and Leeds, before coming to a phenomenal close at Salford’s The Lowry.
Stephen Crocker, Chief Executive & Creative Director Norwich Theatre, said: “This will be a special moment for our whole team and me as we embark on a UK tour with a stop at the iconic London Palladium. This co-production for Norwich Theatre is another bold statement of our own ambition: to create new work and to showcase it across the UK.”
The show starring Jake Humphrey and Damian Hughes is not a live podcast record. Instead, Norwich Theatre has turned the format of a podcast stage show on its head with videos, lights, and unexpected spectacles.
When it opened at Norwich Theatre Royal, High Performance Live received amazing reviews, with the show described as “a full on theatrical experience” (Outline) that allows “everyone to have something to think about on their way home” (EDP).
The London Palladium show features special guests, including the author of Manifest, Roxie Nafousi and special performances from Kye Sones.
Speaking about the new stage show on Norwich Theatre’s latest podcast Norwich Theatre Talks, Jake Humphrey said: “Damian and I are going to talk to the audience, and we are going to make it really interactive. A big part of the show is going to be a proper conversation between the people in the room and us. We want them to feel it is a really personal experience.”
