On 2 October, Norwich Theatre will bring together the local business community for The Business of Climate Stories, a free-to-attend event at Norwich Theatre Playhouse.  It will provide a series of open discussions about climate change, Net Zero and how the business community of Norwich and beyond can drive for change individually and together.

The event will take place over half a day, integrating a series of panel discussions and guest speakers. The aim is to learn from one another and share our own findings as to how we, as the city of Norwich, can explore sustainable ways of tackling issues around climate stories.

The Business of Climate Stories is part of Norwich Theatre’s Creative Matters Season Climate Stories. This year-long season harnesses the power of creativity and storytelling to present different perspectives on the climate crisis. Inspired by the Climate Stories being told, Norwich Theatre is making its own commitment to sustainability with the hopes of sharing its formal Net Zero pledge by the end of the year.

Keynote guest speakers for the day are Team HODL (Hold On for Dear Life). Matt Siely and Luca Feser will share an incredible story of their 2,800-mile row across the Pacific Ocean. With teammate Cutu Serruy, they raised money and awareness for the charity Ocean Clean Up, and broke the world record in the process, as the fastest three-man trio to complete the ‘World’s Toughest Row’ in just 38 days, 16 hours and 19 minutes.

In the morning three panel discussions will be chaired by Asher Minns, Executive Director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research and partner of Creative Matters Climate Stories.

The three panels are:

  • Developing comprehensive sustainability strategies: addressing climate change within the local community and building a green economy
  • The power of the people: incentivising people to implement change
  • Looking to the future: harnessing renewable and green technology to meet the Net Zero

Asher Minns, Executive Director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, said: “Norfolk is the UK County at the front line of climate change, whether it is powering the nation with its clean, renewable energy or facing into North Sea floods, summer wildfires and droughts. This event makes space for all the conversations that need to happen about today and tomorrow.”

Speaking about the event, Lauren Farley, Business Development Manager at Norwich Theatre, said: “Norwich Theatre is on its own sustainability journey to Net Zero and has been inspired by the climate stories already shared during the season.

“We hope businesses will come along and share their insights, journeys, stories and ambitions to explore how businesses and organisations can have a collective impact on this most pressing of topics.”
