Norwich Theatre has teamed up with the University of East Anglia (UEA) for the Green Film Festival. The annual festival aims to raise awareness and generate conversation around global environmental challenges and solutions.

The festival is a four-day celebration of environmental films and filmmakers from around the world. Events include screenings of films with Q&As and guest speakers, creative workshops and a market day. These take place in locations across Norwich’s city centre and at the UEA campus. All are open to the public and are free to attend.

The partnership is part of Norwich Theatre’s Creative Matters: Climates Stories. The year-long season focuses on pressing issue of our time, asking how we can use creativity to explore the climate crisis and presenting ways we can all influence our collective future.

Sam Dawson, Head of Creative Engagement at Norwich Theatre, said: “Creativity enables artists and audiences to imagine beyond the limitations of their own worlds, bringing voices together and revealing new paths forward. Through our theatres and other cultural venues across Norfolk, we aim to offer a safe space for audiences to contemplate, be challenged, learn and negotiate new thoughts around the climate crisis – creating an environment where they are supported to grapple with both positive and negative feelings and constructively build their own path, and bridges with others.”

Opening Night of the Green Film Festival will be hosted in Norwich Theatre Stage Two with a special screening of the film, Cow by Academy Award-winning director Andrea Arnold on 27 Apr. Cow unflinchingly chronicles the details of Luma’s daily life, from grazing in green fields to giving birth, making milk and everything in between.

The film screening of Cow is free to attend and will feature a drink and canapés on arrival and will have a Q&A discussion after the film.
