Norwich Theatre and Lost in Translation Circus are delighted to present INTERLUDE@UEA – a two week extension of INTERLUDE, its programme of live performances originally in Chapelfield Gardens in Norwich, now extended to run at the University of East Anglia Campus from Friday 25th September to Sunday 11th October.
Norwich Theatre and UEA, who have worked together in a formal partnership since 2019, have devised INTERLUDE@UEA to act as a focal point for UEA to welcome new students to Norwich and to welcome back those students who are returning to resume their studies.
INTERLUDE@UEA will take place in Lost in Translation’s big-top tent which will once again operate as a COVID-secure outdoor venue and be located this time on UEA’s beautiful campus. The programme of live performance will be delivered in strict adherence with all COVID-19 regulations and there will be a set of performances specifically for UEA Students alongside another set of performances made available for the public.
INTERLUDE@UEA will open on the evening of Friday 25th September with a Circus Spectacular event from Lost in Translation Circus featuring incredible high wire acts alongside aerial performances and acrobatics. This event will be for UEA Students and Staff to mark the end of Welcome Week and kick-off a weekend of circus performances for students in the days before the academic term officially begins.
The INTERLUDE@UEA programme concludes over the weekend of 9th October with a very special concert revival of HAIR, one of the most iconic musicals of the 20th Century. Directed by former BBC Strictly Come Dancing judge, Arlene Phillips, this Paul Taylor-Mills production comes fresh from its sold-out run at the Turbine Theatre at Battersea Power Station, London. HAIR is a tribal love rock musical that celebrates counterculture in the 1960s but is hugely powerful and relevant today as it examines what it is to be a young person in a changing world.
Norwich Theatre’s award-winning comedy programme will also come to life once again, as it has done so successfully in Chapelfield Gardens, for INTERLUDE@UEA. The comedy line-up so far includes Jimmy Carr and Adam Kay, with further names to be announced in the coming days.

As the UEA community begins a new academic year, I am also thrilled that we can close INTERLUDE@UEA with a stellar and timely production of HAIR, a show that epitomises for me how free thinking young people can change the world for the better.”
INTERLUDE@UEA is the next instalment of Norwich Theatre’s During the Interval programme, a series of truly unique and different events, programmes and interventions bridging the gap between closing its doors in March until its venues are able to properly re-open again. The series now includes:-
- the re-opening of the Playhouse Bar with a creative conversion of the much-loved stage at the Playhouse into a relaxed new lounge area;
- the hugely popular INTERLUDE which is seeing sell-out live performances in a temporary outdoor venue across six weeks in Chapelfield Gardens;
- Norwich Free Market now being held in the Theatre Royal Car Park on a monthly basis;
- a special season of festive shows for 2020, A RIGHT ROYAL CHRISTMAS, which will see the Theatre Royal temporarily re-open to audiences during December.
