Norwich Theatre and the University of East Anglia (UEA) are teaming up for the Green Film Festival with a launch event at Norwich Theatre Stage Two. The annual four-day festival provides an exciting programme of free film screenings and events that combine environmental issues and cinema.

The festival is a celebration of environmental films and filmmakers from around the world and aims to generate conversation around global environmental challenges and solutions. Events include screenings of films with Q&As, guest speakers and creative workshops. These take place in locations across Norwich’s city centre and at the UEA campus. All are open to the public and are free to attend.

This comes in the wake of the Norwich Theatre’s impactful Climate Stories season. Climate Stories tackled the most pressing issue of our time and asked how we can use creativity to explore the climate crisis.

Research following the Climate Stories showed that two-thirds of respondents felt inspired and motivated to make changes that could impact the climate for the better after attending an event. In fact, 85% felt it was good to share their climate stories with others.

Sam Dawson, Head of Creative Engagement at Norwich Theatre, said: “Our Climate Stories season was the boldest season to date and centred on the power of creativity to inspire others to make a change together to influence our collective future. The research proves that theatre and creativity can be powerful tools for exploring the big issues and can inspire collective action amongst attendees.

“The season gave attendees a space where they were supported to grapple with both positive and negative feelings around the climate crisis. This is why we are proud to continue this work, partner with UEA for the Green Film Festival, and host their launch event so everyone can continue to explore climate stories creatively.”

Opening Night of the Green Film Festival will be hosted in Norwich Theatre Stage Two with a special screening of the film, To the End on 25 Apr. Filmed over four years To The End follows four exceptional women and captures the movement behind the most sweeping climate change legislation in US history. From street protests to the halls of Congress, these bold leaders fight to shift the narrative around climate, revealing the crisis as an opportunity to build a better society.

The film screening of To The End is free to attend but must be booked and will feature a Q&A discussion after the film.
