Norwich Theatre has launched new and improved school packages and partnerships to bring top-quality arts, culture, and career inspiration straight to students in the region.
These new options were created to address the changing needs in education. Schools can choose between one-time creative workshops and longer partnerships lasting several years. The programme aligns with the national curriculum and focuses on building students’ ambition and confidence through soft skills.
Package highlights
- Play in a Day: An opportunity for children from KS2 to spend a day working within a professional theatre, devising their very own performance.
- Masterclasses: GCSE and A-Level students can take part in hands-on sessions, starting with the technical team exploring lighting, sound, and design.
- Backstage Tours: Go behind the scenes to explore areas not usually open to the public and learn how a professional theatre works.
- Career Talks: Take part in interactive sessions that explore the many different roles in a theatre.
- Career Exploration Days: Take part in a series of practical sessions led by four different departments within the theatre. Each will set a task, share stories of their personal career pathways, and discuss the skills required.
If a school books four or more packages, it becomes a School Partner. This status gives extra support, including Teacher Network membership, invitations to Norwich Theatre events, regular meetings with the Creative Learning team, as well as opportunities with our national partner organisations and touring companies.
Hayley Murrow, Creative Learning Partnerships Manager, said: “The programme content responds to the real challenges facing our schools today, from financial instability to the need for students to find their voice. We work with schools from Nursery all the way up to Year 13 to create high-quality activities that enable teachers and students to participate equitably, inspiring, raising ambitions, and building confidence.”
A spokesperson at Mile Cross Primary School said: “We have been involved in a partnership with Norwich Theatre for four years now, and the highlight of this has been Play In A Day. Our Key Stage Two children have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in this process once a year, making, rehearsing and performing a play to their friends and families in the space of a day. Our Year 4’s focus on the story of the Pied Piper, our Year 5s focus on Beowulf and our Year 6s focus on Macbeth. This is all linked to their English lessons in school and is a fantastic opportunity for children to bring a familiar text to life, enriching their curriculum further.
“Having the chance to work within the Norwich Theatre Stage Two space for a complete day, with an experienced and talented theatre practitioner, builds confidence, sparks creativity and broadens horizons.”
