Norwich Theatre is delighted to announce that the fabulous Joe Tracini is coming back for his fifth year on our pantomime stage! He will be at the centre of the comedy action as in previous years, with his inimitable style.

In more panto news, Richard Gauntlett will be returning to writing for us this year, using his quick wit and creative genius to make a version of Aladdin set in the East of England that is bursting with panto tradition.

Richard takes a break from performing in the panto this year to pursue his wider career as a versatile musical theatre performer, as he has done previously when he was in The Lion King.

Richard Gauntlett said: “This Christmas instead of donning the heels and big hair of the dame I’m putting on my Elf boots and hat, as I take on the role of Buddy’s father in Elf the Musical. It’s a remarkable opportunity and I’m very grateful for Norwich Theatre’s support in being able to pursue it.

“I am ecstatic to be writing the panto instead, and that Joe Tracini will be in it again! It will be set in the East of England as I bring a new interpretation of a very old tale. I will be around in rehearsals too, and of course available to give the new dame any make up tips she needs.”

Joe Tracini said: “I’m back! I’m so excited and can’t wait to see you all at Christmas. Norwich panto audiences are truly the best in the country.”

Stephen Crocker, Chief Executive and Creative Director of Norwich Theatre said: “It’s brilliant to have Joe back and Richard writing it. We know how much our audiences love the sense of tradition that Richard brings to our pantomimes and we look forward to sharing in the coming weeks who will have the amazing opportunity to step-in for Richard! We have no doubt that they will brilliantly fill those same size 8 (with a 1.5 inch heel) shoes.”

Aladdin opens at Norwich Theatre Royal on 7 Dec 24, and runs over Christmas and New Year until 5 Jan 25. Further casting to be announced.
