Last night, Norwich Theatre panto star swept up at the Grierson British Documentary Awards 2024 for his Channel 4 documentary Me and the Voice in My Head.
Joe Tracini won Best Documentary Presenter, and the documentary won Best Single Documentary. Joe has previously received special recognition for changing perceptions and raising awareness of mental health at the 2022 Pantomime Awards for his role as Tommy Cat in Norwich Theatre’s Dick Whittington and his Cat.
Me and the Voice in My Head is an intimate and personal account of Joe’s struggle to overcome his borderline personality disorder and revive his comedy career. It showed the creation and development of Joe’s show, Joe Tracini Needs Help, at Norwich Theatre with his first show at Norwich Theatre Playhouse. From Joe’s unique perspective, this film explains and visualises the voice inside his head.
Stephen Crocker, Chief Executive & Creative Director, said:
“Joe is one of the bravest and most generous artists I’ve ever had the privilege to work with.
“It was an honour and my pleasure to make this documentary with him, and I’m thrilled it’s been recognised in this way. I know the impact of Joe’s honesty in telling his story will last a very long time.”
You can catch Joe in Norwich Theatre’s panto Aladdin between 7 Dec – 5 Jan. This is Joe’s fifth year in Norwich Theatre’s pantomime, and he will be at the centre of the comedy action playing Aladdin’s brother Reg.
