Aladdin and his mum, Dame Molly Piecrust, aka Tarik Frimpong and Owen Evans, will be heading to City Hall to put a little panto magic into Norwich’s Festive Lights Switch-on on 14 Nov.
Before the lights are switched on, the pair will provide the laughter and festive spirit with a quick interview with the compere before Tarik sings Christmas favourite Santa Claus is Coming to Town!
With the crowd suitably amped up, Owen and Tarik will get the crowd counting along before switching on the stunning array of pretty lights that decorate busy shopping streets across the city for the holiday period. There might even be snow…
This year’s Festive Lights Switch-On event will run from 5.30pm to 7.05pm, with the lights being switched on at 7pm from the stage in front of City Hall.
Norwich BID provided this year’s lighting scheme with support from the city council. The scheme is 100% LED and powered by 100% renewable energy.
Following the Switch-On, there will be more entertainment on Gentleman’s Walk with a brass band playing seasonal favourites, many Norwich Market stalls remaining open through to 8pm for foodie treats and Christmas shopping opportunities, and a funfair offering thrills from 4.30pm until late.
Council cabinet member for A Prosperous Norwich, Cllr Claire Kidman, said:
“Our Festive Lights Switch-on, hosted by the council in front of City Hall, is a wonderful and enjoyable annual treat which, for many of us, marks the start of the countdown to the festive period. We do hope everyone from all communities and all beliefs, and of all ages, will come along and enjoy this joyous gathering of festive goodwill and fun, and experience the community spirit which makes Norwich so special.”
We hope to see you there!
