The electrifying São Paulo Dance Company follows up its triumphant 2024 UK and Ireland debut with a second highly anticipated Dance Consortium tour from 1 February to 27 March 2027 and plays at Norwich Theatre Royal 9 – 10 March 2027.

The company brings a new programme, Brazilian Perspectives, a triple bill of work by three female choreographers, Leilane Teles and Lili de Grammont, both giving UK and Ireland premieres, and Cassi Abranches, whose Agora went down a storm with audiences in 2024.

The colourful and flirtatious Agora, an exhilarating explosion of rhythm and energy, opens the evening. Exploring time and rhythm, Abranches sculpts the movement of each dancer’s body to the percussive beats and bass grooves of Sebastian Piracés’ score, mixing drums and Afro-Brazilian percussion with rock music and vocals. Created in 2019, Agora is the third commission for the company from Abranches, a former dancer with iconic Brazilian company, Grupo Corpo.

Dancer and choreographer Leilane Teles’ Umbó, made for São Paulo Dance Company in 2023, speaks of ancestry that inhabits us all. In a ritual of inspiration and desire, Teles takes the rhythmic textures of Afro-Brazilian traditions and blends them with evocative vocals from singer/songwriter Tiganá Santana and singer Virginia Rodrigues to create something uniquely her own.

A psychologist, psychoanalyst and activist as well as a choreographer, Lili de Grammont created EST.AÇÃO (Station), her second work for the company, for São Paulo Dance Company in 2026. The train station is de Grammont’s device for observing the human experience and exploring questions around climate change. Bodies circulate and traverse, arriving and departing in a constant state of flux. Amidst humour, tension and celebration, the work explores time, communication and the inevitability of transformation. The station becomes a metaphor for our lives, memories and emotions. Music is by Ed Côrtes.

Brazilian Perspectives promises the bold Brazilian energy and fusion of athleticism, precision and emotional intensity for which São Paulo Dance Company is internationally acclaimed.

Founded in 2008 and led by Inês Bogéa, São Paulo Dance Company showcases a distinctive artistic voice where classical technique meets contemporary innovation, driven by a powerful Latin pulse. With dancers renowned for their technical brilliance and vibrant personalities, the company delivers performances that fuse athleticism, precision and emotional intensity.

This 13-venue tour opens at Dublin’s Bord Gáis Theatre on 1 and 2 February 2027. This is the 58th tour from Dance Consortium, a group of 23 large-scale venues based across the UK and Ireland set up in 2000 to engage audiences with the best contemporary dance from across the world.
