A Chorus Line isn’t your typical song and dance extravaganza. The musical takes you on a journey into the heart and soul of aspiring dancers, revealing the raw emotions, fierce competition, and undeniable camaraderie that fuel their dreams. Read on and see why A Chorus Line is a must-see.

1. A trip behind the scenes

We all want to know what it was like in the audition room and how the performers get along (or not) with each other. Well, A Chorus Line takes you into the audition room, revealing the intense competition and camaraderie among aspiring dancers. You’ll witness what it truly takes to earn a coveted spot in a Broadway show.

2. Set in the 70s

Set in 1975, the show provides a snapshot of 70s nostalgia, complete with bell bottoms and brown corduroy. Although set in the 70s, the piece is timeless, and you can change the names for modern-day performers, and it would still have the same impact.

3. Iconic music

As soon as the show starts, you are bound to be swept away by the iconic music. It has some of the most beloved songs, including I Hope I Get It – a version of which featured in a Muppets film – and the showstopping One.

4. Dazzling dancing

Expect stellar dancing! A Chorus Line provides a fly-on-the-wall view of the audition process, allowing you to learn the steps alongside the performers. Whether you’re a dance enthusiast or simply appreciate movement, you won’t take your eyes off the stage.

5. Compelling storytelling

The show is about the dreams, passion and the pursuit of excellence of a group of potential performers. Their stories are raw, honest, and deeply moving, touching on love, loss, and the quest for artistic fulfilment.

6. Timeless themes

A Chorus Line isn’t solely about achieving stardom; it’s about navigating the journey, standing out just enough to earn your shot, and grappling with the impermanence of stage time. The show’s groundbreaking monologue, where a dancer openly discusses being gay, shattered barriers during its time.

7. Funny

While not its main focus, it is surprising and funny, full of self-deprecating humour, quirky and fluffed-up steps. This lightness allows us to connect with the characters.
