At Norwich Theatre, it’s no secret: we love Shakespeare and we love to celebrate the bard and his fantastic work. To celebrate Shakespeare Day, we’ve hand-picked three upcoming shows at the Playhouse that capture exactly why we still love these stories 400 years later.

From bicycle-powered comedies to “murder-mirth” tragedies, these aren’t your typical Shakespeare plays. They are high-octane, hilarious, and heart-pumping tributes to the world’s greatest playwright.

The HandleBards: Macbeth | 28 Jul | Norwich Theatre Playhouse

Join the troupe at the Norwich Theatre Playhouse for a hilariously high-octane production of Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’ like you’ve never seen before. Forget the tears and tragedy, our Macbeth is chock full of mishaps, mayhem and mirth.

We all know the story. Three Witches promise Macbeth the Scottish crown and like any normal people would, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth plot to kill the king. Things get rapidly out of hand from there as foul deeds are done, plots unravel and mysterious spirits appear…

The HandleBards: As You Like It | 4 Sep | Norwich Theatre Playhouse

A fantastically funny bicycle-powered production of Shakespeare’s ‘As You Like It’.

What’s the play about? Well – Rosalind and her cousin Celia flee to the Forest of Arden, where they bump into Rosalind’s love interest Orlando. However, Rosalind is disguised as a young man. Cue some local Shepherds getting involved and the stage is set for a wild ride of wooing, hilarious mistaken identity and the odd wrestling match.

Twelfth Night by The Pantaloons | 10 Sep | Norwich Theatre Playhouse

Get in a fight. Cross-dress. Throw on some yellow stockings. Love can make you do the funniest things…! The critically-acclaimed Pantaloons Theatre Company present their own brand of Shakespearean mayhem in the Bard’s comedy of fools, duels and dual identities. Family-friendly fun with live music and audience participation.

Join the Celebration!

Whether you’re already a fan of Shakespeare or tempted to see what has made him so popular, get yourself a ticket and raise a glass at the bar to the Bard!

Happy Birthday, Shakespeare!
