Building Kindness Through Art

Throughout the summer Norwich Theatre will be working with local artist, Chris Jackson to build a new installation to celebrate the Creative Matters season. Chris uses a wide variety of low-tech and re-useable materials to create precious, elaborate sculptures.

He said: “Inspired by the shimmering, shifting forms of bird murmurations and fish shoals, the installation will feature hundreds of tiny golden, glittering clouds of miniature tokens or ‘votives’ sealed within individual bottles. These intimate, tactile mementoes of daily life reflect the fragile human acts or gestures we choose to share with others, paid forward freely through repeated acts of kindness.”

Drop in on 26 Jul and 24 Aug to add to the artwork! There is no need to book. They are completely free and will take approximately 45 minutes

Family Fun Takes Centre Stage

The Kindness Installation is just one of the many activities running throughout the first week of the summer holidays for Norwich Theatre’s Family Festival. Spanning across Norwich Theatre Royal and Norwich Theatre Stage Two from 23 to 25 July, there will be interactive workshops, drop-in sessions, SEND activities and shows for all types of families. Lots of events are free to attend, and you can just drop in.

Sam Beal, Creative Engagement Project Manager at Norwich Theatre said: “The Family Festival is a real celebration of the power of creativity and kindness to connect across the generations and inspire each other and, of course have fun. There will be something for everyone, from dancing to painting to even doing things at home. So, come on in and join the fun. Our doors are wide open!”

Workshops Foster Self-Compassion and Connection

Throughout the summer, Norwich Theatre will be teaming up with Norfolk and Waveney Mind for two workshops that help participants develop their self-compassion toolkit, explore kindness, and learn how to use the tools in their daily lives. Creating Kindness: Nurturing Parents (25 Jul) will explore everyday ways to bring stress-reducing mindfulness and self-compassion into family life. It will help parents learn why self-care is not self-indulgence. Creating Kindness: Eco-Compassion (31 Jul) helps build a closer relationship to nature, explore feelings of anxiety about the planet and how mindfulness can sustain our positive climate actions.

Whether you’re seeking artistic inspiration, family fun, or tools to cultivate self-compassion, Norwich Theatre’s the kind place to be this summer. Discover all the exciting events and book at norwichtheatre.org or call the Box Office on 01603 630 000.
