Open Day 2026
26 Jul 10:00
Our annual Open Day returns, the ultimate FREE day out for any theatre fan offering a unique chance to go behind the scenes and discover how the magic of theatre is brought to life.
Access-all-areas tour!
Start your Open Day adventure with a guided, access-all-areas tour of Norwich Theatre Royal and Stage Two. You’ll go backstage, explore beneath the stage, peek into dressing rooms, and even stand on the stage itself! See fly rail demonstrations, try your hand at lighting the stage, or check out the prompt desk.
Guided tours will take place from the foyer throughout the day and do not require booking. There are also self-guided routes available.
Access tours can be booked below:
Tech Talks
Don’t miss the Tech Talks, where our expert technicians will delve into all backstage disciplines and offer opportunities to ask all your burning questions about career prospects, special effects, and life working in theatre. These free bookable sessions are for anyone wanting to understand what happens behind the bright lights. A BSL interpreted session is at 2pm. Book your time slot below.
Puppet Workshop
Try your hand at puppet making in our drop in workshop. Inspired by our pantomime, Peter Pan, Daisy Plackett from Strange Fascination Theatre will be on hand to help you with your creations. Running throughout the day, this is a drop in session so if it’s busy pop back later. Recommended for ages 5+.
Norwich Theatre Archives
Explore Norwich Theatre’s archive! Learn from our archivists Maria and Giorgia about the theatre Royal and Playhouse’s rich history and share your favourite story or memory to help create a new exhibition, due to launch later in the year. Discover how your support helps fund some amazing work in the community.
