Norwich Theatre’s Teacher Network provides a space for local teachers to make meaningful connections in a relaxed and friendly environment.
Wise About Words explores the power of immersive storytelling as a potent pedagogical strategy at Reception, KS1 and 2 to aid oracy and confidence.
In this session we will introduce you to and explore some of the games and techniques from the toolkit that can easily be used within current lesson plans to create an immersive learning
experience to bolster the development of essential literacy skills. These skills encompass imaginative language, reading for pleasure, active listening, and vocabulary enrichment. By delving into the captivating world of stories and integrating drama processes, WAW fosters the growth of students’ executive function skills, confidence and wellbeing.
Not a course to teach you to be drama teachers but a way to bring your classroom joyfully to life with simple but effective techniques that work across all subjects and age groups.

Project feedback:
“Wise About Words has revitalised my interest in teaching, and I look forward to the future with WAW and creativity at its core.”
“The project taught me more about giving students a voice than my entire teacher training.”
“At the start of the project child X lacked confidence in whole class situations and due to severe speech and language difficulties, X was wary of sharing ideas and would become very upset and reluctant to try new things. X quickly became engaged in the project…has made HUGE improvements …gained confidence in their ability and if not always able to express themselves through words, they can in movement. X will now happily share ideas with the whole class and will ALWAYS put themselves forward to take the lead role in any active learning sessions.”
