Work-in-Progress: The Go Between
This event is in the past
Join us in Stage Two as we support the development of new work by local artists, and help shape the theatre of tomorrow.
This free work-in-progress sharing will showcase an early version of a new adaptation of The Go-Between, one of the great novels of Norfolk and a timeless exploration of memory.
Featuring a blend of professional actors and community participants, this contemporary adaptation is being created by award-winning playwright Ben Musgrave. By being the first ever audience for this work and giving your feedback afterwards, you can help Ben discover how the story resonates with Norfolk today.
Set in late-Victorian England, The Go-Between by L.P. Hartley is about a Norfolk boy’s initiation into the mysteries of adult life. Exploring Britishness, lost innocence, memory, love and betrayal it has been continuously discovered by new generations since its publication in 1953. It is most famous for its opening line:
‘The past is a foreign country, they do things differently there’
This project is led by Ben Musgrave in partnership with Eastern Angles and Producer Karen Goddard, with support from Norwich Theatre’s Creative Development Programme, St. George’s Theatre, Yarmouth and The University of East Anglia. It is funded by Arts Council England.
