Work Experience

Theatre Work Experience Week

At Norwich Theatre we believe every young person should have the opportunity to explore, learn and thrive in the world of theatre. Our new Work Experience Week is designed to open our doors to young people across the region, particularly those who may not usually have access to creative industry opportunities.

Each year, up to 10 students (Year 10) will take part in a week-long, hands-on experience inside a working theatre. Participants will gain insight into how a receiving theatre operates and discover the wide range of careers available.

During the week, students will work alongside professionals from across the organisation (Marketing, Learning & Engagement, Programming, Commercial and Technical/Backstage departments) who will talk about career pathways, skills needed and set tasks for you to complete together.

This immersive experience offers a behind-the-scenes look at how the many departments collaborate to bring the fully rounded creative experience of our shows and programmes to our audiences.

Through the programme, participants will:

– Connect with creative industry professionals across various roles in the sector
– Discover the extensive range of career opportunities within a theatre
– Build key workplace skills including communication, problem solving, creativity, speaking

The programme supports Gatsby Benchmarks for good career guidance by providing meaningful encounters with employers, real workplace experience and insight into creative career pathways.

2026 Work Experience Week:

We are excited to launch the programme in Summer 2026. In its pilot year, we will work closely with a group of current partner schools to  refine the experience, ensuring it is fair, supportive and inspiring for all participants.

An open application process will then launch in January 2027, for young people from across the region to apply for the 2027  Work Experience Week that will take place in the summer term.
