Young Cultural Leaders

“This space is a necessity for growth – not a privilege,” Young Cultural Leaders 22/23 participant

The Young Cultural Leaders programme is designed to offer anyone aged 18-30 the opportunity to gain practical skills and learn how to help shape and define leadership, with a longer term ambition of diversifying our board with representation of young cultural leaders within our governance structure and establishing a culture of young leadership within partner organisations.

Across the academic year, participants have the opportunity to:

  • Attend 10 monthly sessions led by guest speakers exploring examples of leadership in practise and leadership ‘tools’ to be applied within the workplace, including an exploration of leadership styles, core qualities, ethical and values led leadership
  • Book one to one sessions with members of the Norwich Theatre team with space for reflection and exploring what is resonating with or shifting as a result of attending the programme
  • Invitations to leadership focused events including a talks led by industry professionals and tickets to Norwich Theatre events and performances

By attending the programme, participants will:

  • Have a clear understanding of their leadership style and feel empowered to apply leadership skills that have been developed within their personal and professional lives
  • Understand the importance of inclusive leadership practise and contribute to building diverse sectors
  • Feel optimistic about the future and aspire to leadership positions within their sector

The desired criteria

You must be aged between 18-30 to apply. Qualifications, skills and experience are not essential to take part. However, your attitude, personality and ambitions are very important to ensure you are able to contribute as much as possible to the group. Please use the desired criteria below as a guide when applying.

  • Highly ambitious to further develop leadership skills, aspiring to governance roles
  • Committed to attending all sessions/one to one opportunities
  • Interested in deepening your knowledge of approaches to cultural leadership
  • Interests in charitable, social, cultural and creative endeavours
  • Committed to learning skills
  • Committed to taking action for positive social change
  • An interest in governance models

Creative Assembly

Young Cultural Leaders is one of our five groups in our Creative Assembly initiative. Each group in the Creative Assembly has its own focus and will bring its own ideas and creativity to help shape the direction of Norwich Theatre. Together, the Creative Assembly will transform decision making at Norwich Theatre and enhance communities’ integration into the life of the theatre.
