Join Norwich Theatre for family fun this May half term and dive into a variety of brand-new sessions with their Creative Families programme.

Everyone can join the festivities this Spring, with all workshops bookable for free or on a pay-what-you-can basis. Set sail on a pirate adventure, explore whimsical fairytales, and design your own puppets in their exciting new line-up. It is the perfect way to spark imaginations this May half term and inspire a lifelong passion for creativity!

Start the week with a vibrant exploration of theatre-making in Play in a Day on 27 May. This fun workshop encourages young people to delve into the depths of their imagination and produce a piece of theatre that builds upon their confidence and self-expression. They will spend the day forming friendships through acting, directing, and exploring physical theatre before they get to perform their own original production for their families!

Set sail on another wild journey of imagination with A Pirate Adventure (27 May). This immersive experience brings you and your little ones aged 4 – 7 on a daring voyage, breathing new life into classic tales and helping inspire the grown-ups with storytelling ideas. It is all hands-on deck in this immersive session, filled with fun games, props, and mesmerising stories.

Take a moment to relax in Norwich Theatre’s Sensory Stories for SEND (28 May), providing a comfortable space for families with children aged 7 – 11 who have special educational needs and disabilities. The session uses an array of sensory materials and props to create a relaxed and supportive environment. It is also accessible for neurodiverse and non-verbal children and their grown-ups!

Bring the family along to an enchanting retelling of a classic fairytale, Free for Families: Hansel and Gretel (28 May), on the terrace at Norwich Theatre Playhouse. Featuring zany characters and handmade puppets, this family show will surely add some whimsy to the day. Budding artists 5+ can explore their creativity in the Hansel and Gretel: Family Workshop (28 May) after the show and learn how to make their own puppets inspired by fairytales. The show and workshop are free to attend but tickets must be booked to secure your place and avoid disappointment.

Nik Khandpur, Head of Development at Norwich Theatre, says: “By providing free and low-cost tickets, we are giving even more families a chance to get involved in life-changing creative experiences.

“As a registered charity that receives no regular public funding. Alongside the generosity and loyalty of our audiences, we rely greatly on the support of our donors, ambassadors, corporate partners, and charitable trusts to help us deliver an engaging and accessible programme of workshops and activities. We are incredibly grateful to the supporters of Creative Families, whose kindness and commitment to the community has made this programme possible.”

Free for Families & Creative Families is made possible thanks to the support of the Alan Boswell Group Charitable Trust, the Simon Gibson Charitable Trust, The Educational Foundation of Alderman John Norman and The Geoffrey Watling Charity.
