What is it?
Play in a Day is a fun, friendly exploration of theatre making, encouraging creativity, imagination and confidence through performance. Participants will warm up with games and exercises, before delving into the piece, through acting, directing, movement and physical theatre; each participant will be encouraged to input into the outcome, and together the group will produce a short, original piece of theatre, to share with their families.
What will I get from taking part?
Taking part in drama-based exercises encourages young people to work well together, whilst enhancing self-expression, confidence, literacy and language skills – and of course is great fun!
Play in a Day is a fun and accessible approach to devising a piece of theatre, with no pressure, and no previous performing experience required. The session is about enjoyment, encouraging creativity and collaboration.
Who will be leading the project?
Play in a Day is led by Norwich Theatre creative practitioner Tom Scudamore
Do I need any particular skills or experience to take Part?
You do not need any previous drama experience to take part and enjoy- just your own creativity and a passion to perform!
Do parents need to stay?
Parents can drop of children just before 10am and collect by 1pm, there be a showing of what the children have created at 12:45pm if they’d like to return to watch a short performance.
Make theatre, no matter your budget!
We offer a “Pay What You Can” system for this session. This means everyone is welcome to create with us, regardless of how much you can afford. Simply choose a session payment that works for you.
- Our suggested donation is £15, to help keep our holiday work going.
- Want to help others create? A £20 donation goes towards free activities for families who need them most.
- Just come and play! You’re welcome to join in for free, or donate £8 if you’d like.

Please wear comfortable clothing suitable for movement. Bring a bottle of water and a snack.
We really value being able to offer you these fun Creative Engagement activities, but please note that these are funded projects, offering low or no cost opportunities to our audiences. These activities are often in high demand with limited spaces and wait lists. If you book a space, but are no longer able to attend please contact us as soon as possible to let us know so we can offer the space to someone else.

Activities are dependent on minimum numbers participating, in the event that we need to cancel due to low participant numbers, a full refund will be given. We are unable to offer refunds in other circumstances.
We work hard to ensure best practise and the safety of all who attend our activities. To do this we have a number of policies and procedures in place to support our participants and visitors.
