To celebrate Refugee Week, Norwich Theatre, in partnership with Bridge+, is proud to host the Refugee Week Family Day on Saturday 20 June.
This free, inclusive event invites families from all backgrounds to gather under a welcoming marquee at Norwich Theatre Royal for a day of adventure, community, and a lively hub of circus skills, music-making, and arts and crafts.
Part of Norwich Theatre’s Theatre of Sanctuary programme, the day is designed to celebrate the kindness, courage, and diverse cultures that define Norwich.
Speaking about the Refugee Week Family Day, Elspeth Hunter, Creative Engagement Project Manager at Norwich Theatre, said: “This is going to be a joyful day of fun and celebration of all the things that make our city special, where families can spark imaginations and help everyone discover their brave side. As a Theatre of Sanctuary, we want to provide a space where trying something new is an adventure and where every family feels they belong.”
Try something new at the Circus Skills workshop – a playful, high‑energy session that’s all about giving things a go! Test your coordination with juggling, spin some plates, find your balance, try diabolo, ribbon sticks and more, all in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere where having fun comes first. Drop in anytime or join our tutor-led workshop at 11am.
Step through the looking glass and join the fun with Wonderdays – an interactive theatre adventure inspired by Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. Created especially for families, these lively performances are packed with colourful characters, playful surprises and magical moments, brought to life through puppetry, whimsical storytelling and beautifully handmade costumes. Presented by Strange Fascination, the show takes the shape of a delightfully daft tea party, where everyone is invited!
Feel the rhythm and make some noise at the Drumming Circle. This joyful, high-energy session invites families and people of all ages to come together, try something new and build confidence through sound and movement.
In addition to the festivities, Norwich Theatre is proud to support the Hope Happens Here campaign, part of the national A Million Acts of Hope movement.
This month, everyone is invited to visit the Norwich Theatre Box Office, Café Royal, or Norwich Theatre Playhouse to fill out a card with your everyday stories of hope, whether it’s a conversation, an event, or a simple gesture of welcome, care or kindness. This initiative aims to demonstrate that hope is stronger than hate and welcome is stronger than division
All completed orange Heart cards will be displayed at the Forum during Refugee Week.
