In partnership with the Norfolk & Norwich Festival, Norwich Theatre Playhouse presents two productions this May. First, Brokentalkers: Bellow (15 – 16 May) explores the extraordinary real-life story of Danny O’Mahony, one of Ireland’s foremost accordionists, a man who has dedicated his life to preserving traditional Irish music and mastering his craft.
Following this, Thick & Tight: Natural Behaviour (22 – 23 May), somewhere between a variety show and a biology essay, comes alive with Thick & Tight’s distinctive mix of dance, satire and impersonation. It is a queer look at what it means to be natural or unnatural.
Mozart’s comic opera of intrigue, secret lovers and clever disguises, The Marriage of Figaro (8 Sep 26), is heading to Norwich Theatre Royal. With this show, get ready for an evening of sparkling tunes, tangled romances, and razor-sharp wit.
Celebrating four decades at the forefront of British jazz, Courtney Pine (12 May 26) returns to the stage this year with A Modern Day Jazz Story — a powerful retrospective tour. Blending the spiritual legacy of jazz with the pulse of reggae, soul, hip-hop, and drum & bass, his musical lens tells the deeply personal story of a generation.
If you fancy a laugh, you are in safe hands with comedians Jason Bryne (24 – 25 Sep 26), who is celebrating 30 Years Byrning, Stevie Martin (11 Oct 26) who is returning to live comedy after racking up 45 million views world and Harriet Kemsley (8 Nov 26) and her new show about dating, mushrooms and how she’s trying her absolute best to be a bit of a floozy.
The hilarity continues with this holiday romcom-inspired show, The Fit Prince (who gets switched on the square in the frosty castle the night before (insert public holiday here)) (21 Jun 26). This show flicks through the net of traditional holiday movies, bringing all their Hallmarks for a queer, chaotic, comedic, and heartfelt production.
At Norwich Theatre Stage Two, catch some new work from artists with Imperfect Storms: New Work from East Anglian Writers (2 Apr 26) and Scratch Night (16 May 26). You can also see two skateboarding in Sisters360 (6 Jun 26), a look at the legacy of Tom Lehrer with Mitch Benn: The Lehrer Effect (14 Jun 26), an explosion of an ancient myth about the moon in Selene (12 Jul 26) or an angry giant in The Selfish Giant (24 Oct 26).
